President Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey -- the man in charge of investigating Trump's ties to Russia -- is shocking. No American should accept Trump's absurd justification that Director Comey was fired for treating Secretary Clinton unfairly. The truth is undeniable: President Trump fired the sitting FBI Director in the midst of one of the most critical national security investigations in our country's history, one where senior officials in the Trump campaign and administration are themselves implicated. This is Nixonian, and we cannot stand for it. In light of Trump's troubling and increasingly suspicious actions, we must redouble our efforts in demanding the immediate appointment of an independent Special Counsel to investigate Trump's ties to Russia.
