13 Were Exposed to Radiation at New Mexico Plant 27 Feb 2014 Thirteen workers at the nation's underground nuclear waste dump in southeastern New Mexico have tested positive for radiation exposure after a recent leak released toxic radioactive particles in and around the plant, officials announced. The accident is [allegedly] the first-known release of radiation since the dump near Carlsbad began taking plutonium-contaminated waste from the nation's nuclear bomb building sites 15 years ago. It came just nine days after a truck hauling salt in the plant's deep mines caught fire, but officials say they are confident the incidents are unrelated.

Samples taken from spots on and around the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant outside Carlsbad show radiation levels below those considered a public or environmental hazard [?!?], the DOE said in a statement.

Bridge scandal: Newly uncensored texts show Wildstein, Kelly mocked rabbi 27 Feb 2014 Newly uncensored records released today by the legislative panel investigating the George Washington Bridge lane closings show David Wildstein and Bridget Anne Kelly, two people at the center of the scandal, joked about causing traffic problems for a prominent New Jersey rabbi. On Aug. 19, six days after Kelly e-mailed Wildstein stating, "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," the pair exchanged texts about causing transit delays for Orthodox Rabbi Mendy Carlebach of the Chabad of North & South Brunswick, a chaplain for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department and a close Christie ally.

Chris Christie 'firmly' backs embattled Port Authority chairman 26 Feb 2014 Gov. Chris Christie tonight said he continues to back his embattled Port Authority chairman "strong and firmly," telling New Jersey 101.5 that he remains confident in David Samson's ability to preside over the bi-state agency despite the view of its executive director that Samson lacks the necessary moral authority... A series of recent reports have revealed that Samson's law firm, Wolff & Samson, has represented clients that have benefited from Port Authority actions. Samson has defended his ethics as chairman.

The most recent contract was awarded last month, according to the website.

Kentucky Seeks Delay in Recognizing Same-Sex Marriage 27 Feb 2014 Kentucky's attorney general asked a federal judge on Thursday to delay by 90 days an order requiring the state to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states and countries. The two-page filing says the delay is sought to give the attorney general time to decide whether to appeal the Feb. 12 ruling and would give the state an opportunity to prepare to implement the order. The request came as parties in the case awaited a final order from U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II overturning part of Kentucky's same-sex marriage ban.

The Party of Hypocrisy! Abandoning VETERANS? Will you remember in November?

This is just another example of the party of hypocrisy contradicting yet another one of their key talking points to play partisan politics.

Support the troops? NOPE, playing partisan politics is more important!

One of the biggest problems I have with Republicans is their blatant hypocrisy. They’ll portray themselves as the party of “small, fiscally conservative government” while advocating for laws which are the complete opposite.

Their rallying cry of “we support our troops” is another that’s a clear misnomer of exactly what policies they support. Republicans frequently support sending our troops off to war and often oppose funding for programs which helps our troops when they’re not deployed to war. To say Republicans “support our troops” is a blatant slap to the face of every man and woman who has served our country.

A New Jersey police officer is recovering from smoke inhalation after rescuing animals from a pet shop fire, officials say.

The fire at Pet Center on State Highway 23 in Franklin, N.J. was reported at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, and officers Rafael Burgos and Jeffrey Korger were among the first responders on the scene, according to the Franklin Borough Police Department.

Burgos rescued all the pets inside the building as other officers evacuated nearby businesses, police said.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, and investigators say the blaze appears to be related to an electrical issue.

Burgos is receiving medical attention for smoke inhalation, police said. No one else was injured.

A local veterinary hospital is helping to temporarily care for the displaced pets.
