A volunteer writes:
Sinatra and Hoban were brought together to the care center as their owner was experiencing serious difficulties. Hoban is a tiny and vocal little two month old girl....Sinatra is a tall and handsome seven month old boy with the hugest paws. It is hard not to fall for this gorgeous, healthy looking and lively youngster. Sinatra is full of energy. He is boisterous on the leash but listens. He eliminates as soon as we leave his quarters. It never fails. He seems fine with other dogs met in the yard, even play-bowing to some of them. Left free in a pen, Sinatra is quite playful. He runs after the ball and retrieves mid way. He still has a lot to learn. That is the fun part with puppies. Sinatra thinks and acts like a puppy and that is because he is one. The problem is:he is quite big and really, having him jumping on my lap or next to me to demonstrate his love can be quite an adventure. Sinatra is a big, strawberry blond, breathtaking, very Lab-ish, friendly and affectionate puppy. He is right now at the Manhattan Care Center, wishing upon a star, to find himself soon at home, played with and loved...

For more information on adopting please read the following:

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have dogs, cats and other pets throughout my life. They’ve given me unconditional love and showed me the meaning of humanity. So when I see animal victims of abuse and neglect it makes me fight all the harder on their behalf.

Through your AHA membership you’re fighting for them, too. You’ve helped save countless from a life of cruelty and abuse. Many have been adopted into loving homes. But many more urgently need our help. And time is running out.

Every year in America, approximately 3-4 million healthy adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized. And while AHA has done so much to save them, there’s always more we can do.

Through your AHA membership, you’re supporting research to reduce pet overpopulation...raising public awareness about the importance of adopting homeless pets at local shelters...providing emergency veterinary care for abused and abandoned animals...and much, much more.

And that’s why when you consider your year-end giving, I hope you will make a tax-deductible contribution of $15, $25, $35, $100 or more to AHA today.

Your gift will be the gift of life to a deserving dog, cat or any other animal that urgently needs our help now. Please don’t wait. Lives are at stake.

On behalf of our American Humane Association family, thank you again for your compassion and generous support. I wish you and yours a happy and safe Holiday Season.
