Save A Life!

Most animals that find themselves in shelters will be euthanized, frequently by gassing.

If you're considering adding a furry member to your family, please consider Shelters and Rescue Groups first! Save a life!

Adoption and Transportation information available on links.

Please support Spay & Neuter programs to end the tragedy!

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Hi Greg! Just wanted to share something with you and the staff at Dog Patch... We adopted Hank (formerly Collin) from your store a week and a half ago. This quiet little guy has been a pure joy and source of entertainment
since we got him home. Last night however we realized how truly blessed we were to to have him come into our lives at this time. At around 2:00 am he started frantically barking loudly in the downstairs family room. After a minute or two my daughter and I finally made it downstairs to discover my 83 year old mother laying on the kitchen floor. Apparently she had woken up in a sweat and knew her blood sugar must be low (she's a diabetic) so she was attempting to take her glucose level and collapsed. After checking her over and taking her sugar (it was 36-DANGEROUSLY LOW) we managed to stabalize her and get her back to bed within the hour. Had this quiet, shy little guy not started his frantic barking, mom would have gone into a coma or perhaps worse by the time we found her this morning. Just wanted to share and thank you and the staff for this little blessing! We are forever grateful and just adore our little Hank the tank!!!

Ariel is looking for a foster or even better, a forever home. She was saved from a high kill shelter and has been in boarding with absolutely no interest! She loves everyone - 2 and 4 legged! She's so beautiful and yet, her photo has only 82 shares. Please help get Ariel's face and information out to the masses. This lovely gal deserves a forever home! Thank you ♥
***URGENT NEEDS FOSTER OR ADOPTER*** Meet Ariel. This precious 3 year old pit mix had a terrible start to life. Before she was dumped in a high kill shelter, th...e only life she knew was as a breeding machine and mommy. Once her ‘family’ no longer had any use for her, they dumped her in a rural TN shelter. Not only was she abandoned and on death row, but she was stuck in a location where it is ILLEGAL to adopt our a dog with any pit in them. Inevitably, Ariel was scheduled for death on 8/1 at noon. Needless to say that Ariel did not die that day, but began a new life as a Twenty Paws dog. At a convenient 50 lbs, this doll yearns to finally know what its like to be someone's baby. She cared for so many in the past, and they were all stolen from her. No one cared for her at all. When we rescued her, Ariel was riddled with parasites, heartworm positive, severely emaciated, and infected with distemper. Boldly redefining the word survivor, Ariel not only survived, but she is the picture of perfect health. Her illnesses never detered this little girl’s spirit/ She lavished at her newly found freedom and second chance. Eternally grateful to the vet staff for their determination to improve her health, Ariel showered them with kisses and wiggles. Truly, now it is her turn to experience love and affection. Ariel loves ALL creatures, 2 and 4-legged. Every night, Ariel dreams that someone will be her hero. Every night, she dreams that she can become part of a family. Could it be your family? With a heart of gold, Ariel will even let you play with her and her food dish while she is eating! What a gem! And who could ever resist those soulful eyes, perky smile, and expressive ears. At this time, Ariel lives in a boarding facility. This is no life for any dog. Unfortunately, and by no fault of her own, the right family has yet to come along for her. Ariel deserves more than a life behind bars and a cold metal bed. Please consider fostering or adopting this survivor. If interested in fostering or adopting, please email us at twentypawsrescue@gmail.com or info@twentypawsrescue.com. **Due to a gmail glitch, we lose some emails. So if you do not hear back from us please follow up! We respond to all emails!** You may also see Ariel on our website at www.twentypawsrescue.com and complete an online application.

As you may know, summer is HIGH kill season at the shelter. Intake numbers sky rocket in July and August, and many highly adoptable pets needlessly die each day. While intakes are at an all time high, our rescues are overwhelmed as adoptions trickle to a stop. Donations are few and far between. Foster homes become scarce as their lives are busy with summer events and vacations. It is a scary time for rescuers, and it tests our faith and our ability to continue.

We need to expand our reach and raise awareness. Donating for a "general cause" may not be as "dramatic" as donating for a specific injured or sick animal, but without your support, we can not pay for advertising or the other avenues that help get the word out. We can not assist when a rescue calls and says that they will pull an injured animal "if they have the funds to pay for medical/rehab." We need your support if we are going to continue fighting for our animals at the NYC AC&C.

Ple...ase visit our website where you can make a tax-deductable donation today.

http://urgentpetsondeathrow.org/donate/"

Every little bit helps, and together we CAN make a difference.

There are still over 20 hoarding dogs that still need rescued. From a rescue who saved 10 of the dogs - the hoarding dogs are NOT aggressive. They are terrified but non-reactive. Here are before and after pictures of just one of the dogs. Let's work on getting the rest of the dogs out of Devore, so the rest of them have the chance to experience the joy of their own beautiful "after" picture.
Please let everyone know the Devore hoarding dogs are NOT aggressive!!!! We saved ten of them and fully handled all of them... They are terrified but non-reactive. Within a week they have all shown such progress... Some even are acting like normal dogs. Please save the rest!!!!!
