Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A0971411 Jasmine pulls a bit on the leash and was shy but friendly during the assessment - low body and tail, but trying to stay close. She was shy and nervous during handling, but had soft body language. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Jasmine was not interested in toys or rawhides and was cautious when approaching the helper dog, but showed no aggression. Look: 2. Dog's eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog submissively (head low, low tail wag, ears back, lip long).

Moose is really the definition of a gentle giant. He is a very playful and loving dog that you can’t help but want to cuddle up with. Moose does have **RINGWORM** and that is the only thing keeping him from being able to give you all the love that this big guy has to share. Moose is a Handsome 9 month old Great Dane that loves to play. The ringworm he has may prevent you from giving him a hug but it has not stopped Moose from wanting to give you some love. I just know that when the ringworm clears up that’s when the real affection that he has been waiting to give will be unleashed, and you will fall in love with this Gentle Giant.

Luther is a 12 month old Shepherd mix who entered the shelter system as a stray. He had an incredibly worried look on his cute face and was probably wondering why he isn't safe and comfortable in a home. Luther has since relaxed; but, he is still wondering why he doesn't have a home! He can get there...find a loving home...with the help of his Urgent Family. Please share

Luther is quite a good looking young dog. What mix could he be? A Shepie, a Dobie...who knows? I love his short tail ending in a little white fanion. He does have some type of dermatitis on the face that will clear with basic care and the help of a veterinarian. He gets up right away from his blankie when he sees me at his door and gets leashed without fuss. Luther is a bit timid, though, hand shy too. He came to trust me rather quickly and soon enough, he responded to his given name, sat by my side and was petted all over. I even got the honor of a furtive kiss on my face... He can sit and stay on command and pose s for the photos session without being camera shy. Luther walks well on the leash and eliminates without marking outside the building. He seems fine with other dogs met and even very pleased with some. Luther, who is at the Manhattan Care Center, is a beautiful male, well nourished, timid but friendly who will make, given a chance a wonderful forever best friend.

Max Powers is 4 yrs old and 20 lbs, and is ready to have some fun! This squatty guy loves NOTHING more than tennis balls – he can’t get enough of the pure joy of nibbling all that fuzz off!
But a close second on Max’s list of favorite things would be other dogs, followed by picnics in the park and napping on the couch. Max is housetrained and pretty easy on the leash, and he comes ready to adopt - See more at: Rescuzilla http://www.adoptny.org/ max-powers/

A volunteer writes:
Trixie, my golden girl.....sitting so quietly in her kennel waiting for her turn to go out. Surrendered with her housemate Bella (A0973316) because her family is moving, we are told that she lived with 3 adults and 1 child, is housetrained, lived with other dogs and cats, and is friendly to all. Trixie demonstrated her housetraining skills as soon as left the building, and then showed off her great leash manners. What a delight! In the park Trixie posed for photos like a pro, sat when I asked her to and took her reward treats gently. She actually didn't like my treats so spit them out in a very ladylike manner! Everything about Trixie is soft, from her coat, to her manners to her personality. She enjoys giving and getting kisses, and liked sitting between my legs watching the world go by. She's low key and easy, happy to simply be with me. In the backyard with her housemate, Bella, her tail wags a little harder as she and Bella explore the area. Trixie aced her behavior assessment indicating she will be a good fit in almost any home. She is an absolute gem waiting for her happily forever after to begin with you. Her former owner left us with the words, "a loving dog" and she certainly is. Ask to meet her today.

Ponder this - Tutti was adopted, most likely, 13 years ago from the ACC. You see, Tutti's animal ID# is in the VERY low digits - this is how we know she has been returned from her beginning - to now potentially face her end. TUTTI is just one of a myriad of recent returns to the ACC. She is accompanied by her brother, BENJI, both dumped with a surrender reason of "PERSONAL PROBLEMS".
Who has the personal problems now? TUTTI and BENJI, that's who. PLEASE adopt these 2 sweet seniors TODAY!!

Loose-limbed and long-legged, Alfredo is a lanky youngster resembling a sighthound mix of Ireland called "lurcher". Calm and collected, Alfredo walks well on leash, exploring new scents every now and then, but being an absolute gentleman for the most part. He seems to enjoy the the company of other dogs, greeting those we encounter in a polite and unobtrusive way. And when we stop for a brief rest, he gently leans in, glances up with his soft eyes, and quietly stays at my side as other people pass by. Joining us with Sargent (A0972782), their beautiful coats and manicured nails suggest that they were, until recently, well-loved members of a family. Left free in the backyard, Alfredo comes when called and takes treats gently from my hand. Having aced his behavior assessment, Alfredo should be a wonderful addition to most families. So, if you're looking for a handsome companion to join you on long hikes through the woods or to spend a quiet evening together, look no further - Alfredo has all the desirable attributes to make him your ideal choice!
Behavior: AVERAGE HOME
Helper 972462
Alfredo was calm, relaxed and very soft during handling. He followed the assessor calmly while playing tag with the assessor. Alfredo did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl, but was not interested in toys or rawhide. He approached other dog with friendly body language.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
Tag: 1. Dog stands with his tail low and wagging, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze2: 1 . Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish's movement. Dog's body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog - dog 1. Dog approaches the helper, soft body, tail neutral, but not playful.
