This girl is full of energy and doesn't seem to have an "off" switch, which may help to explain how she landed at the shelter as a stray on July 29th. Helper: 0973940 Cindy was calm and relaxed during handling, as well as when following the assessor at the end of the leash on the tag test. She growled and snapped at the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test. Cindy took the rawhide away with soft body language, and only displayed minimal interest in the rawhide on this portion of the assessment. She proved confident when approaching the helper dog, but showed no aggression. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor's cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog's mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog - dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward. Cindy showed some concerning behavior over the food bowl. She did not bite the assess-a-hand, but did snap as a warning. Her food guarding is also being seen by staff members at meal time, so Cindy will need an experienced foster or adopter who can work to modify this food bowl behavior. The behavior department does not recommend placement into a home with children as a result of this food bowl behavior. However, Cindy gave up the rawhide without issue, and she did extremely well with all the handling items.

came from, we appropriately named him Moses. Moses has a heart of gold. He is
thin and needs to gain some weight. Sadly, his horrific life left him with more
than just hunger, thirst, and an emaciated frame. Moses is covered in old scars.
We do not know where this is from.
However, it is clear that he was a
victim of circumstance more than once. He is absolutely wonderful with people
and children. He does get along with dogs; however, a meet and greet would be
required. Moses also loves car rides, belly rubs, and snuggling. He really needs
a home to decompress. Due to the urgency of the situation he is in boarding.
Our hearts bleed for Moses; and, after seeing him, we know he will

...oth Coated (though I'm thinking he's more of a Doxie mix). He was surrendered by his owner to the East Valley Shelter (Van Nuys, L.A., CA. 818-756-9323) on July 12 (he's been there a month - not a low-kill shelter!) due to landlord issues.
SIMBA has no behavioral notes, and he just comes up to be greeted at the front of the cage. He does have some medical notes, but nothing too bad: hot spot on head, worn teeth, nuclear sclerosis (fancy way of saying "old age" eyes aka cloudy eyes), and he's fat. He also had URI, but was given meds for this and is on the mend.

Oh my goodness....how ADORABLE! This precious little guy (only weighs 7 lbs!) is too cute and too sweet for words. He came into the
shelter as a stray with tons of fleas. He had some hair loss resulting from flea dermatitis. He was given a medicated bath and is no longer itchy and is looking much better! He is a quiet little fella and never makes a sound to be noticed. He loves to cuddle in a soft comfy blanket or better yet....on your lap. He is a gentle little fella and does not need to be in a shelter environment. He needs to be in a home where he will receive lots of TLC. He will be absolutely GORGEOUS once all his hair grows in! Please....won't you open your heart and home and give him a second chance at life and love? Please hurry! This pet has been at the shelter since 07/01/13!!
