Congressman Jim McGovern

This week, I, along with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, led 98 House and Senate members in sending a very important letter to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. The recent Farm Bill contained devastating cuts to nutrition assistance, which will affect the states, such as Massachusetts, who use the “Heat and Eat” program while administering the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program block grant.

Our letter urges Secretary Vilsack to allow states plenty of time to adjust their policies, reach out to recipients, and provide as much support as possible for our citizens who are going to see their monthly food budgets severely cut in the coming months. We need to show we have the support of thousands of people standing with us in our outrage.

Will you join me and become a citizen co-signer of our letter, and call on Secretary Vilsack to allow states plenty of time to implement these new cuts?

These cuts are truly devastating, and the federal government should allow states the necessary time to ensure that the impact isn’t worsened by inadequate time to comply.

Click here to co-sign the letter to Secretary Vilsack, and help make sure that our most vulnerable citizens aren’t hurt any further by these cuts.

Thank you for standing up,
Jim McGovern
