Dukes County calls for Pilgrim closure

EDGARTOWN — Dukes County commissioners have added their voices to their mainland counterparts in Barnstable, calling for the shuttering of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.

On June 11, commissioners approved a resolution asking Gov. Deval Patrick to "call upon the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to uphold their mandate to shut down Entergy's Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth because the public safety, particularly that of the Cape and Islands residents and visitors, cannot be assured."

County Manager Martina Thornton said Friday a letter similar to the one sent by the Barnstable County commissioners and the 15 towns in Barnstable County would accompany the resolution.
