BIG PHARMA'S SCAM!
Have you seen big price spikes in how much your medicine costs? Are you splitting pills in half to make your prescriptions last longer? Weigh in here:http://www.sanders.senate.gov/drug-prices
Several of you have asked me why the National Football League continues to enjoy the tax status of a non-profit when it functions like a huge corporation and its commissioner, Roger Goodell, pulled in $44.2 million in 2012 alone (executive VP Jeff Pash got $7.9 million and another executive VP, Eric Grubman, $4.2 million, and three other executives got over $1.7 million each). The answer is it spends a lot of money to be popular in Congress. According to OpenSecrets.org, the NFL has donated millions in campaign contributions to political leaders in the past few years and spent more than $1.6 million in lobbying Congress in the past 18 months. And it's an equal-opportunity contributor. In the Kentucky race for Senate, for example, the NFL has contributed both to Mitch McConnell ($10,000 so far) and to Alison Grimes ($5,000).
But an explanation is not a justification. There is no justification for the NFL's nonprofit tax status. Nor, for that matter, is there any justification for any nonprofit -- subsidized by the rest of us taxpayers -- paying any executive more than 20 times the median household income (this year, that would be $1 million). You agree?

Environmentalist, Veteran, and Director of the Vet Voice Foundation in California Steve Dunwoody pens this piece in the Huffington Post.
"These national public lands are meaningful to me and other veterans because they offer hiking, camping and other forms of outdoor recreation -- key to a healthy mind and body. Hiking in these mountains can be especially restorative for veterans struggling with stress and PTSD. My organization and others organize outings in the San Gabriel Mountains to foster camaraderie among veterans and purpose: we want to see these public lands protected."

Will we ever have a politics that raises income taxes on the wealthy to finance world-class schools for our kids, raises the minimum wage to a living wage, provides a minimum guaranteed income, ensures reproductive and equal-marriage rights, protects our environment, and restores equal opportunity in America? Yes. How can I be sure? Because women are gaining economic and therefore political power, Latinos are gaining strength in numbers, African-Americans are becoming ever more politically active, and young people are the future. Meanwhile, white, mostly rural, mostly male, conservative voters are gradually disappearing. The most popular show on Fox News is Bill O’Reilly’s, but the median O'Reilly viewer is now over 72 years old. In actuarial terms, O’Reilly’s viewers will mostly be gone in a decade. The average Fox News viewer overall is 68.8 years.
The future belongs to progressives. The real question is what we do with it.

Why Vermont’s socialist senator may run for president.
“I remain concerned that we don’t see sufficient seriousness on the part of the federal government about protecting the American public,” says Texas Senator Ted Cruz, speaking about the Ebola virus. But Cruz’s own government shutdown and Republican-led budget cuts caused the National Institutes of Health to delay clinical trials that, according to Dr. Francis Collins, director of the NIH, would probably have produced an Ebola vaccine by now. Similar budget cuts have forced the Center for Disease Control to reduce its disease outbreak detection program. What Cruz and his fellow rightwing travelers don’t get is America cannot protect the public’s health on the cheap.
