Background Checks Won!

One of the biggest victories for commonsense gun laws in Tuesday's election came in Washington State. Voters there overwhelmingly passed a proposal called I-594 that expands background checks in the state -- the only place in the whole country where background checks were on the ballot. They won big.

That means virtually anyone who wants to buy a gun in Washington will have to go through a background check. Because voters stood up for this commonsense solution, criminals and the severely mentally ill will have a much harder time buying a gun in Washington.

It's a huge victory, and one we hope to see in more states very soon.

The good news doesn't stop there. The gun lobby sponsored another initiative in Washington that they hoped would confuse voters and thwart expanded background checks. But voters saw through the gun lobby's tricks, and voted against it. The gun lobby lost.
Almost 90% of Americans support expanded background checks on gun sales. It's only a matter of time before more states follow the example Washington State set Tuesday.
Thanks for all you do,
Peter
