Greece Defaults On Debt As Syriza Offers Alternative Austerity Package
By Chris Marsden
http://www.countercurrents.org/marsden010715.htm
Eurozone finance ministers rejected Tuesday yet another offer from the Syriza-led government in Greece to impose austerity measures in return for a new €30 billion bailout from the European Union (EU). Without any additional funding, Greece missed repaying the latest tranche of its loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
Greece Again Can Save The West
By Paul Craig Roberts
http://www.countercurrents.org/roberts010715.htm
This would begin the unravelling of the EU and NATO and save the world from armageddon. Most likely, Italy and Spain would follow Greece out of the EU and NATO, as these countries also are targeted for merciless looting. The EU and NATO, Washington’s mechanism for creating conflict with Russia, would unravel. The world would be saved and would owe its salvation to the ability of the Greeks to realize what really is at stake. Just as they did at Marathon, Thermopylae, Plateau and Mycale. It is difficult to imagine another scenario that would save us from World War III. Pray that the Greeks understand the responsibility that is in their hands not merely for liberty but also for life on earth
Baskin’s Generous Offer: Making Peace With Israeli Occupation
By Ramzy Baroud
http://www.countercurrents.org/baroud010715.htm
In the article, Baskin offers a way to manage the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Jerusalem. Not an end to the occupation, but a gentler way to sustain it, if not profit from it. The co-chairman of ‘Israel Palestine Creative Regional Initiatives’ is indeed being ‘creative’, the kind of creativity that brought about the Village Leagues, Oslo and the Geneva Initiative without truly delving into the heart of the matter – the illegality and brutality of Israel’s occupation, sieges and wars
Iraqi Voices Are Screaming From Far Away
By David Swanson
http://www.countercurrents.org/swanson010715.htm
Ali Issa's new book, Against All Odds: Voices of Popular Struggle in Iraq, collects interviews he's done of key Iraqi activists, and public statements made by Iraqi activist movements, including a letter to the U.S. Occupy Movement and similar messages of global solidarity. The voices are hard to hear because we haven't been hearing them all these years, and because they don't fit with lies we've been told or even with overly simplistic truths we've been told
Media Uncritical Of Justifications For Shooting Escaped Convict
By Matt Peppe
http://www.countercurrents.org/peppe010715.htm
After nearly a month on the run after breaking out of a maximum-security prison in Upstate New York, convicted murder David Sweat was shot on Sunday by a New York State trooper and apprehended. Two days earlier fellow convicted murderer and escapee Richard Matt was shot dead by a federal agent nearby. While Governor Andrew Cuomo was quick to label Sergeant Jay Cook, who shot and captured Sweat, a "hero" - a claim that was repeated by CNN, the Daily News, Time and many other outlets - there was no serious analysis about whether Cook's use of lethal force was legally justified

Why The FTII Strike Matters
By Shini J.K
http://www.countercurrents.org/shini010715.htm
The people who asks how the appointment of FTII chairman affects the public, and those people who asks, where FTII was when saffronisation, right wing agenda and the financial repercussions of neo-colonialist interests, existed alongside, our conversation is with them

If you’re a man who rides the NYC subway, you can help in two ways: 1. Don’t sexually assault anyone. 2. Call out and confront men who do
