Four pedestrians were struck, one fatally, by an out-of-control vehicle near Yonge Street and Empress Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m.

Witnesses told CityNews a car hit a taxi and continued to drive through Empress Avenue, hopping a curb at Yonge Street where several pedestrians were hit.

The vehicle ended up on the sidewalk and hit a tree before striking a black Porsche, witnesses said.

A 65-year-old man was killed. Two others were seriously injured, and another suffered minor injuries.

Witness Susan Barry said the car was “out of control completely.”

The 62-year-old female driver of the car wasn’t seriously injured, but appeared rattled.

“She didn’t know what happened,” another witness told CityNews. “She was just sitting on the curb, not talking. She was in very bad shock…She was just shaking.”

Police are asking witnesses to come forward. At this point, no charges have been laid.

The area was closed to traffic for several hours, but all roads have since reopened.
