EAST ORANGE — Funerals for the two 21-year-old women killed in a single-vehicle crash off of Route 3 in Clifton Friday have been set for this week and next week.
Tashanique "Zoey" Hawkins, of Elizabeth, will have a noon service Friday at Smith Funeral Home, 455 North Broad St., Elizabeth. Carlene Maynard, of East Orange, will have a 10 a.m. funeral service Aug. 14 at Christ Episcopal Church at 422 Main St., East Orange.
At about 3:30 a.m. on July 31, a 20-year-old East Orange woman driving a 2007 Toyota Camry with four passengers lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason while on the Route 3 exit ramp to Valley Road, Clifton police Sgt. Michael Bienkowski has said. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole and rolled over, he said.
The driver and two other female passengers were taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, he said. Both Hawkins and Maynard were killed in the crash.

Hawkins' viewing will take place at 10 a.m. Friday. Maynard's viewing will take place an hour before her funeral service on Aug. 14.
Hawkins leaves behind her 10-month-old son, Basim Oma'ri; her parents, Kim and Davonn; and four siblings. Maynard, who recently turned 21, is survived by her parents, Marilyn and Odley; five siblings; and "thousands of friends and family," according to a statement on her Gofundme.com page.
Gofundme.com pages have been set up for both Hawkins and Maynard following their deaths. Each page has raised several thousand dollars as of Thursday morning.
"Tashanique was very popular because of her mild, soft, humble and fun loving spirit," according to a statement on Hawkins' Gofundme.com page.
"Carlene was a fun, loving, and caring individual," according to a statement on Maynard's Gofundme.com page. "Every day of her life was filled excitement, adventure, and laughter. Her radiant smile and style epitomized the phrase 'glitz and glam.'"
Clifton police have not yet released the names of the driver or the other passengers involved in the crash. Detective Sgt. Robert Bracken said Tuesday morning charges were not expected to be filed at this time in connection with the crash.
Bracken has not yet provided more information on the circumstances of the crash, saying the matter was still under investigation. He previously said several people were ejected from the vehicle.
