Breaking: WikiLeaks obtains CIA chief's hacked emails, says will publish them 'shortly' | 21 Oct 2015 | WikiLeaks has come into possession of the contents of CIA chief John Brennan's email account, the whistle-blowing organization said Wednesday, saying that they will be releasing them "shortly." Earlier this week, an American teenage hacker with pro-Palestinian views claimed that he had broken into the personal email accounts of US top security officials, CIA director Brennan's among them.
Breaking: VP Joe Biden says he won't run for president in 2016 | 21 Oct 2015 | Vice President Joe Biden will not run for president in 2016, he said Wednesday, ending a months-long flirtation with a third White House campaign and setting him on a glide path toward the end of his decades-long political career. Biden's decision finalizes the Democratic field of White House candidates and likely bolsters Hillary Rodham Clinton's standing as the front-runner by sparing her a challenge from the popular vice president. He spoke at the Rose Garden with President Obama at his side.
NYPD using military-grade x-ray vans, bombarding unknown targets with radiation to spy on them | 19 Oct 2015 | Dystopian truth is stranger than dystopian fiction. In New York City, the police now maintain an unknown number of military-grade vans outfitted with X-ray radiation, enabling cops to look through the walls of buildings or the sides of trucks. The technology was used in Afghanistan before being loosed on U.S. streets. Each X-ray van costs an estimated $729,000 to $825,000. The NYPD will not reveal when, where, or how often they are used. "I will not talk about anything at all about this," New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton told a journalist for the New York Post who pressed for details on the vans.
NATO nations to keep presence in Afghanistan, officials say | 19 Oct 2015 | Germany, Turkey and Italy are set to keep their deployments in Afghanistan at current levels, senior NATO officials said on Monday after the U.S. government decided to prolong its 14-year-old military presence there...Gen. Philip Breedlove, NATO's top commander in Europe, said he had assurances that NATO countries will continue alongside the nearly 10,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. While discussions of exact numbers are still continuing, the biggest national deployments are not in doubt, he said.

Although in reality, the former US secretary of state's memo is mere additional confirmation of what is already broadly known, it is likely to add to the pressure on Sir John Chilcot's long-delayed Iraq war inquiry to clear up the controversy over Blair's intentions and undertakings in the run-up to war. In public, Blair continued to insist throughout 2002 that he had taken no decision on whether to support the invasion that eventually began in March 2003.
ISIS negotiating with Al-Nusra Front to join forces against Syrian Army - Russian military | 21 Oct 2015 | The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday its intelligence had overheard Islamic State commanders talking to Al-Nusra Front about uniting forces against the Syrian Army. The Russian Air Force eliminated 83 militant targets in 46 sorties in the last 24 hours, bombing terrorist groups in five Syrian provinces, destroying camps, warehouses, vehicles and workshops, the MoD's spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said in a briefing on Wednesday. The airstrikes hit targets of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) [but still I-CIA-SIS] and Al-Nusra Front in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Deir al-Zor, Hama, Idlib and Latakia.
Third Russian air strike on Syrian 'rebel' group kills leader | 20 Oct 2015 | Russian air strikes in Syria's Latakia province killed a 'rebel' commander and four other fighters from a group armed by President Bashar al-Assad's foreign enemies, a spokesman for the group said on Tuesday. The attack on Monday evening marked the third time Russian war planes have targeted the First Coastal Division group since Moscow began its air strikes in support of President Bashar al-Assad on Sept. 30, the group's spokesman Fadi Ahmad said. The First Coastal Division is one of several groups that have received foreign military support including U.S.-made anti-tank missiles, the most potent weapon in the rebels' [terrorists'] arsenal.
US and Russia sign deal to avoid Syria air incidents | 20 Oct 2015 | Russia and the US have signed a deal that they hope will avoid clashes between their air forces in the skies over Syria, officials from both countries said. Last week, the US said both countries' planes "entered the same battle space" and came within miles of each other. Officials had been seeking an agreement since late September. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said the text of the deal would remain secret at Moscow's request, but that it laid out means for both sides to communicate and establish a hotline on the ground.
US pilot killed in F/A-18 Hornet crash near Lakenheath, UK police confirm | 21 Oct 2015 | An F-18 fighter jet has reportedly crashed shortly after take-off from RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk. Local police confirmed the pilot died at the scene. The jet was one of six returning from combat operations in the Middle East and reportedly failed to rendezvous with a fuel tanker before the crash occurred.
Trudeau wins big as Canada votes resoundingly for a leftward shift --Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party swept Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper from office in a major upset in Monday's vote. | 20 Oct 2015 | For many residents of Canada's largest city, it was hard to know where to begin celebrating on Monday night. First came the Toronto Blue Jays' 11-8 victory over the Kansas City Royals in a must-win Major League Baseball playoff game. U.S. announces task force to develop drone registry --[Even the CIA's?] --Recommendations due by Nov. 20 | 19 Oct 2015 | The Obama administration said on Monday that it would require drone owners to register their unmanned aircraft as part of an effort to curtail rogue drone flights that pose a danger to commercial aircraft and crowded public venues. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the creation of a task force of private sector and government representatives to craft recommendations for establishing the first ever federal drone registry...The registration requirements would also apply to drones already in use.
M5.5 quake jolts Fukushima, Kanto region | 21 Oct 2015 | An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck Fukushima Prefecture at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, adding there was no danger of a tsunami. The epicenter of the quake was about 30 kilometers deep. The quake had an intensity of 4 in Fukushima, Miyagi, Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures.
Fire at radioactive waste plant in Nevada causes part of U.S. 95 North to remain closed | 19 Oct 2015 | A portion of U.S. 95 North and two schools are closed in rural Nevada following a fire at a radioactive waste plant in Beatty. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, U.S. 95 north from State Route 160 to Tonopah remains closed indefinitely, even though the fire is out. Multiple local and state agencies responded to the fire Sunday afternoon at U.S. Ecology...The industrial waste plant processed hazardous and radioactive waste for 30 years before closing in 1992. Nye County officials say the fire was burning eight miles from populated areas.
Flashback: How the White House and Paul Ryan are making sure forced labor remains part of their secret TPP | 27 May 2015 | The House of Representatives will quickly get down to unfinished business once it returns from the holiday recess: defending trading partners that engage in slavery. The House, according to sources familiar with trade deal negotiations, plans to strip Senate language from fast-track legislation that would ban countries that are the worst human-trafficking and forced-labor offenders from being part of big trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The provision will be removed by House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Sociopath-Wis.) through a customs bill that will come to the floor after the fast-track bill, sources familiar with the planning told The Huffington Post...The anti-slavery provision was, for the White House and other backers of the deal, an unwelcome rider. While the provision seems like a no-brainer (Who supports slavery in 2015?), the White House wants it gone.
Conservatives not yet sold on Paul Ryan as House speaker | 21 Oct 2015 | Conservatives in the House are saying not so fast to the idea of Speaker Paul Ryan. On Tuesday night, the Wisconsin Republican laid out his [dystopian] vision to his GOP colleagues and said he would be willing to serve as speaker -- if the whole conference could unite behind him. But Wednesday morning, many of the conservatives that consistently fought outgoing House Speaker John Boehner and helped scuttle the bid to replace him by Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy signaled they aren't ready to jump on the bandwagon for Ryan.

I mean, look at some of the other people," the minority leader continued...Reid praised Ryan's past work with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) to hash out a [disastrous] budget deal in 2013.

I don't think my chief enemy is the Republican Party," Biden said at the Walter Mondale Forum at George Washington University, a not-too-thinly veiled reference to Clinton's debate assertion that Republicans were the enemies of which she is proudest...The vice president said he was on the same page as the president when it came to substantive policy matters.
Joe Biden would be only Democratic candidate backing Asia trade deal if he runs for president | 07 Oct 2015 | Vice President Joe Biden became the only prospective or current Democratic presidential candidate supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership on Wednesday as Hillary Rodham Clinton declared her opposition. A longtime darling of unions [Why?!?], Biden has been skeptical of previous sweeping free trade deals, warning of risks to U.S. jobs. Yet he's publicly supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership, jeopardizing his support from unions if he enters the race. Other declared Democratic candidates have said they oppose the deal.
Jim Webb Drops Out of Democratic Primary | 20 Oct 2015 | Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb announced on Tuesday that he is dropping out of the Democratic presidential race. He left the door open on a potential independent presidential bid, but said a decision on that would come later. Citing frustration with party leadership and what he sees as a corrupt political class, Webb announced at the National Press Club this afternoon that he is withdrawing from any consideration of being the Democratic Party's nominee. Asked if he is still a Democrat, the former Ronald Reagan administration appointee replied: "We'll think about that."
Jim Webb mulls running as independent | 19 Oct 2015 | The campaign [sic] of long-shot Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb circulated an email statement Monday afternoon with the subject-line "Jim Webb To Consider Independent Run." The email announces that Webb will hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon to "discuss his candidacy, the campaign and his views of the political parties in the current election cycle." Webb is a one-term senator (by choice) of Virginia. He served as Navy Secretary under President Ronald Reagan but entered politics because of his stern opposition to the Iraq war.
Ben Carson Wants Forced Vaccines. Stop Saying Otherwise. | 19 Oct 2015 | ...Some anti-vaccination camps began to spread the filthy rumor that Ben Carson is in our corner. The fact is, he isn't. He did allow [Donald] Trump to question the vaccine schedule, but he has never waivered on his position that vaccines are wonderful and should be forced. Check out some quotes from the video. When cornered about pharmaceutical companies pushing vaccines for profit, Carson responds: "I would say that vaccinations are pushed because they have been very successful at eliminating major public health hazards."
Donald Trump Gains Strength in Poll of Republicans; Jeb Bush Continues to Lose Ground | 19 Oct 2015 | Donald Trump and Ben Carson continue to broaden their appeal among Republican primary voters and have widened their lead over Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and many other more-experienced candidates, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds. Mr. Bush, once considered the GOP's likely nominee, is also lagging behind his onetime protégé, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who is emerging as the leading contender to rally the party's establishment wing against the rise of insurgent outsiders such as Messrs. Trump and Carson. The new poll, conducted Oct. 15-18, underscores the durability--even the gathering strength--of anti-Washington candidates who had long been viewed as likely to be flash-in-the-pan political phenomena.
