Major General (Ret.) Paul Eaton: "Walking off the war"

VoteVets.org

In 1965, Congress passed a bipartisan commitment to use offshore drilling revenues to support the conservation of another precious resource -- our land and water.

So every year, by law, royalties paid by energy companies drilling for oil and gas pay into a fund to protect and maintain national parks, forests and wild life refuges from development, and to provide matching grants for state and local parks and recreation projects.

But that law, The Land and Water Conservation Fund, expired on September 30th, and that puts many of our most treasured public lands in danger. And now we need Congress to renew the law ... in perpetuity.

Sign our petition calling on Congress to do that right thing: Renew the Land and Water Conservation Fund to assure it is fully funded. Every year.

For many of the men and women who return home from overseas, the road to recovery happens on the trails of some of our nation's national parks. We call it "walking off the war." And indeed, studies have found a link between outdoor activity and long-term psychological well-being among veterans.

That's why this legislation -- and your petition signature -- is important.

Thanks for signing,

Major General (Ret.) Paul Eaton
