The woman who posted a photo of her dog with his mouth duct-taped shut and created a public outcry has been  arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
Police in South Daytona Beach were flooded with hundreds of calls on Friday November 27, 2015 after upset animal lovers informed them about a disturbing picture of a dog with her mouth taped shut that was posted on Facebook.
The woman posted a picture of her dog along with the caption, “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!”  The post was quickly followed by another saying, “Don’t panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!”

The posts prompted a firestorm of protest online and authorities opened an investigation.
Several police departments reportedly became involved in tracking down the dog's owner, which lead them to 45-year-old Katharine Lamansky and the dog named Brown.
Eventually, North Carolina police tracked her down. They arrested her and charged her with animal cruelty.
In a press release, Cary Police Captain Randall Rhyne said, “Taping the dog’s muzzle shut was a terrible decision on Ms. Lemansky’s part, and charging her with animal cruelty under North Carolina law was the right thing to do.  At the same time, it’s important to also note that our animal control officers who physically examined both Brown and her litter-mate found the dogs to be very well cared for, which is why we did not and could not remove them from the owner. The dogs are current on their shots, spayed, and micro-chipped. They are clean and well-nourished and appear to be comfortable in their surroundings, and there were no signs of injury to Brown’s muzzle, not even detectable hair loss.”
Lamansky faces a fine and could spent up to 150 days in jail if convicted ABC 11 reported. Lamansky is due back in court December 14.
