Obama tightens gun rules, requires more background checks | 04 Jan 2016 | The White House unveiled gun control measures on Monday that require more gun sellers to get licenses and more gun buyers to undergo background checks, moves President Barack Obama said were well within his authority to implement without congressional approval. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives now will require that people who sell guns at stores, at gun shows or over the Internet be licensed and conduct checks, officials said. The ATF was finalizing a rule requiring background checks for buyers of dangerous weapons from a trust, corporation or other legal entity as well.
 
Obama to close background checks loophole on gun show sales | 04 Jan 2016 | Barack Obama will move on Tuesday to close the loophole which allows weapons to be sold at gun shows and on the internet without any background checks. Obama will set out his plans for greater resources for the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), including 200 new ATF agents and investigators, and a new center to track illegal online firearms trafficking. White House spokesman Josh Earnest confirmed on Monday that the president had made up his mind to take the actions, but insisted the measures - expected to be unveiled as soon as Tuesday - would withstand legal challenge.
 
FBI takes lead on investigating armed takeover of federal building in Oregon | 04 Jan 2016 | The FBI has taken charge of the law enforcement response to an armed occupation of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon, saying that it will work with local and state authorities to seek "a peaceful resolution to the situation." Federal authorities are working with the Harney County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon State Police and other local and state agencies in response to the situation in eastern Oregon, the latest chapter in an ongoing fight over federal land use in the West. The occupation of a remote federal wildlife refuge followed a peaceful march and rally held over the weekend to support two local ranchers convicted of arson.
 
Oregon militia occupying wildlife refuge wants to overthrow government, says sheriff | 03 Jan 2016 | On the second day of their armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, the Bundy militia shifted tactics. From a state of lockdown they moved to a charm offensive, inviting a small media contingent inside their redoubt, with warm smiles and waves. The local sheriff was not convinced. "These men came to Harney County claiming to be part of militia groups supporting local ranchers," Sheriff David Ward said in a statement, "when in reality these men had alternative motives, to attempt to overthrow the county and federal government in hopes to spark a movement across the United States".
 
1,000 British troops deployed to Libyan oil fields to 'halt the advance of ISIS' | 04 Jan 2016 | British Special Forces have been deployed in Libya to wrest back control of more than a dozen oil fields seized by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants, it has emerged. Approximately 6,000 European and US soldiers, including 1,000 British troops, will be involved in a number of offensives set up to halt the advance of the jihadist terror group. Special Forces, including military close observation experts from the Special Reconnaissance Regiment, are spearheading the major coalition offensive against the jihadist group, according to the Daily Mirror.
 
ISIS oil trucks cross into Turkey every day, captured terrorist admits | 02 Jan 2016 | A captured Islamic State militant who spoke to Sputnik news agency has bolstered claims that Turkey is involved in illegal oil deals with the jihadist group up to the hilt. 24-year-old Mahmud Ghazi Tatar says he joined Islamic State (IS, previously ISIS/ISIL) [but still I-CIA-SIS] from the Turkish city of Adiyaman. Together with other recruits, he was transported over the border into Syria where he received terrorist training.
 
Saudi Arabia severs diplomatic ties with Iran after Saudi was allegedly compared to ISIS by Iran in online meme | 04 Jan 2016 | Saudi Arabia has broken off diplomatic ties with Iran following an attack on the Kingdom's embassy in Tehran, inspired by Saudi's decision to execute 47 men including Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr. Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir announced the decision to expel Iran's diplomats following the evacuation of its own diplomatic staff from Iran. Iran's diplomats have been given 48 hours to leave Saudi Arabia after the Kingdom's foreign ministry accused Iran of failing in its duty to protect its embassy in Tehran...A controversial meme was posted on a website thought to belong to Iran's Supreme Leader suggested the only difference between Saudi rulers and ISIS executioners was the clothes they wore. The mob hurled petrol bombs at the building before being cleared by police. Pictures on social media showed that some protesters forced their way into the embassy, smashing furniture and starting a fires which was swiftly extinguished.

German police clear two train stations due to 'imminent threat' of terror attack | 31 Dec 2015 | Two Munich train stations were evacuated Thursday due to an "imminent threat" of a terror attack just minutes before New Year's celebrations were set to hit the German city. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told reporters at Munich's police headquarters authorities had received information that the terror group Islamic State was behind the threat. Munich police president Hubertus Andrae said German authorities had been tipped off by a foreign intelligence service that ISIS was planning attacks with five to seven suicide bombers, the German news agency dpa reported.

Foxborough police said officials assigned to the Winter Classic event were notified of a suspicious man at an off-site employee parking lot of Gillette Stadium. During a search of the suspect's car, multiple weapons, including an electric stun gun and several sharp edged weapons were seized.
 
Several injured as French military guarding mosque open fire on 'ramming' car | 01 Jan 2016 | Several people were injured, including three soldiers and a bystander, when a military patrol guarding a mosque in the French town of Valence opened fire on a car that appeared to be intentionally ramming them. The driver of the car did not stop after being told to do so, Le Parisien reports, so the patrol opened fire on the vehicle.
 
Belgian nuclear plant's reactor shuts down days after reboot | 03 Jan 2016 | Belgium's Doel nuclear reactor went offline on Saturday, after it was restarted just three days ago, the plant's spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Germany has stepped up criticism on operational safety of its neighbor's aging nuclear facilities. Doel 1 nuclear reactor, located in northern Belgium, was taken offline automatically, RTL broadcaster quoted the communications manager Els De Clercq as saying...Meanwhile, Germany, which is also eliminating the use of nuclear power, has been raising red flags over possible environmental consequences, arguing that it is too dangerous to keep the Doel reactors going.
