South Carolina GOP lawmaker Thomas Corbin calls women “a lesser cut of meat”

How does the Republican Party manage to find such Jack Asses?

GOP lawmaker calls women “a lesser cut of meat”

South Carolina's Thomas Corbin: Sexist pig or sexist pig?

A Republican state senator in South Carolina called women “a lesser cut of meat” and suggested that they belonged barefoot and pregnant, the libertarian-leaning blog FITS News reports.
Chauvinist in any context, Corbin’s remarks occurred during a legislative dinner this week to discuss domestic violence legislation. Sources present at the meeting told FITS that Corbin directed his comments at fellow GOP state senator Katrina Shealy, the sole woman in the 46-member chamber.
“I see it only took me two years to get you wearing shoes,” Corbin told Shealy, who won election in 2012. Corbin, the site explains, is said to have previously cracked that women should be “at home baking cookies” or “barefoot and pregnant,” not serving in the state legislature.

“He makes comments like that all the time to everybody – including Senator Shealy,” said one legislative aide who spoke to FITS.
Indignant at Corbin’s rank sexism, Shealy asked him where he “got off” making such remarks.
“Well, you know God created man first,” a smirking Corbin replied.  “Then he took the rib out of man to make woman.  And you know, a rib is a lesser cut of meat.”
Corbin appears to have a penchant for offensive or downright bizarre statements. During a 2013 speech on the Common Core education standards, he reportedly embarked on a tangent about “gay man juice.”

So there is this Republican state senator in South Carolina, Tom Corbin, who loves freedom and guns and all those good Republican things, and he sure seems like a real swell guy. He also has some neat thoughts on women — or at least, the one woman in South Carolina’s state Senate, equality, yay! — and how they she shouldn’t be in his special boys’ club of state senator boys, for boys only.
According to FITS News (who is that? no idea, but they seem to follow Corbin’s every awful move and track all his terrible words, and they call him a quote-unquote “Republican” because he’s obviously a total RINO), Corbin and his fellow state senators were munching on some dead cow at the Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse, when Corbin decided, for no reason whatsoever it would seem, to start picking on his one lady colleague, Katrina Shealy, for being a lady, which is something he seems to like doing a lot:
“I see it only took me two years to get you wearing shoes,” Corbin told Shealy, who was elected in 2012 as a petition candidate. […]
By way of explanation, lawmakers and legislative staffers have previously told FITS about statements made by Corbin – statements reflecting his belief that women do not belong in the S.C. General Assembly and should instead be “at home baking cookies” or “barefoot and pregnant.”
“He makes comments like that all the time to everybody – including Senator Shealy,” one Senate staffer told FITS.
That must be that southern gentleman chivalry we have heard rumors of? Yet somehow, Sen. Shealy did not take too kindly to his words — can’t imagine why — and supposedly asked him “where he ‘got off’ attacking women.”
Well, this is where he gets off:
His response – overheard by numerous lobbyists and fellow lawmakers – was one for the ages.
“Well, you know God created man first,” Corbin said, reportedly smirking at Shealy. “Then he took the rib out of man to make woman. And you know, a rib is a lesser cut of meat.”
Then, according to sources — the anonymous kind, don’t even worry about it, SOURCES — she was practically ready to slug him, but his sources say that no, man, they just have this HI-larious “running joke” where he says sexist crap to her, and it pisses her off, and he laughs and laughs and wow, that sure sounds like a funny joke!
Our favorite part of this FITS News report is the admonition to Corbin at the end:
Corbin needs to recognize right quickly that the fight for expanded individual liberty and economic prosperity is (and always should be) blind to questions of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or any other determining characteristic that’s got nothing to do with a person’s views on the issues.
Wow, when even an apparently conservative website thinks you’re harming “liberty” and “prosperity” by being a sexist douchehole, you are really doucheholing it up. Maybe. You know: “sources.”
