Breaking: Two snipers dressed in military garb shoot 11 police officers 'from elevated positions' in Dallas --Fifth police officer dies --One suspect claims to have planted bombs 'all over the place.' This suspect, holed up in a high-rise parking garage, was 'actively exchanging gunfire' and negotiating with police, but reports are emerging that this suspect has died from a 'self-inflicted gunshot wound.' At least four suspects 'with rifles' were/are apparently in play. Two suspects in a Mercedes-Benz 'with camouflage bags' were stopped and detained after a traffic stop. One suspect negotiating with the Dallas Police Department (DPD) revealed that there are bombs planted in the parking garage and 'all over downtown Dallas,' according to David Brown, Dallas Police Chief. --Suspicious device discovered near second suspect, bomb squad on scene --ATF, FBI, US Marshals, SWAT, military and Humvee on scene --Snipers were situated on two different perches --Fifty to sixty shots were fired --Suspects threatened to 'plant a bomb' in area, according to David Brown. Five police officers and one transit police officer (Dallas Area Rapid Transit - DART) were killed; 6 others wounded. One civilian has been wounded. Downtown Dallas is a 'major crime scene.' Police in standoff with suspected sniper after five Dallas officers killed during protest; three others in custody | 08 July 2016 | Dallas Police were in a standoff early Friday with a suspected sniper who, along with at least one other shooter, targeted law enforcement officers during a protest march, killing five and injuring several other officers as well as one civilian. More suspects may be at large. Dallas Police Chief David Brown said the suspect holed up in a downtown parking garage had exchanged gunfire with officers for 45 minutes and claimed "the end is coming," as well as saying that he had planted bombs across Dallas and wanted to hurt more officers. Brown also said authorities had earlier taken a woman into custody near the garage. Two men were also being questioned after police pursued their vehicle away from downtown onto Interstate 35.
 
Bomb squad secures suspicious package following Dallas police shootings | 07 July 2016 | A suspicious package has been located and secured by a bomb squad in Dallas following the shootings and killings of multiple police officers at a Black Lives Matter protest. Earlier Thursday, Dallas Police Department's Chief David Brown said snipers suspected of killing multiple police officers may have planted a bomb in the city. The snipers are suspected in the shootings of at least 11 police officers from elevated positions at a Black Lives Matter protest. As of 12 a.m. EDT Friday, four had died. One civilian was also wounded during the protest shootings.
 
Shots Reportedly Fired at Dallas Protest Over Police Killings | 07 July 2016 | Shots were reported fired in downtown Dallas on Thursday night during a protest over shootings by police of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota, CNN affiliate KTVT said. Across the nation, Americans wept and vented their anger over the police killings of two black men in two days. They chanted outside the governor's residence in St. Paul, Minnesota, miles from the spot where an officer killed Philando Castile in a car on Wednesday while a 4-year-old girl sat in the back seat.
 
Officer-involved shootings: All lanes of I-880 in Oakland remain closed due to protest | 08 July 2016 | Thousands of protesters gathered in Oakland Thursday night to rally behind the two men [killed in police shootings], now at the center of a nationwide conversation over race and the use of force. Demonstrators marched onto Interstate 880, shutting down all lanes of the highway as they staged a sit-in. At one point, protesters started lighting off fireworks, set a Caltrans sign on fire and climbed onto a big-rig.
 
Justice Dept. to monitor investigation into deadly Minnesota police shooting | 07 July 2016 | The Justice Department will monitor the investigation into the controversial shooting death of a black man by a police officer in the St. Paul, Minn. suburb of Falcon Heights, according to Gov. Mark Dayton who said Thursday he was "heartbroken for Minnesota." Officials say the state's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will take the lead on the investigation into the shooting death of Philando Castile on Wednesday. Video of the aftermath appeared on Facebook.
 
Minnesota Police Shooting's Aftermath Is Captured in Gruesome Video | 07 July 2016 | A Minnesota man was fatally shot Wednesday night by the police during a traffic stop in a St. Paul suburb, and the aftermath was captured in a grisly video recorded by the car's front-seat passenger and streamed live. It was at least the second shooting this week of a black man by police officers, and parts of both encounters were recorded on video. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that the man killed was Philando Castile, a 32-year-old cafeteria supervisor at a Montessori school in St. Paul.
 
At least 35 killed in attack on Shi'ite mausoleum north of Baghdad | 07 July 2016 | Islamic State claimed a triple suicide attack on Thursday evening near a Shi'ite mausoleum north of Baghdad, which killed at least 35 people and wounded 60 others, according to Iraqi security sources. The attack on the Mausoleum of Sayid Mohammed bin Ali al-Hadi reignited fears of an escalation of the sectarian strife between Iraq's Shi'ites and Sunnis. The Shi'ite form a majority in Iraq but Sunnis are predominant in northern and western provinces, including Salahuddin where the mausoleum is located.
 
NYC transit to get $22M to combat terrorism threat | 08 July 2016 | New York City's bus and transit system is receiving more than 22 million in federal funds for security upgrades and training intended to prevent terrorism. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the award for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Thursday. Smaller amounts will go to transit agencies in western New York state.

The case before a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is the first of its kind to consider whether a criminal defendant's constitutional privacy rights are violated under a National Security Agency program that allows spying on Americans' international phone calls and internet communications.
 
Bernie Sanders Will Endorse Hillary Clinton Next Week: Report | 7 July 2016 | Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is expected to formally endorse presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, potentially ending tensions between the two and easing the concerns of party leaders hoping for a united front ahead of the nominating convention later this month. The endorsement is expected to occur next Tuesday, when Sanders and Clinton will appear together at a rally in New Hampshire, Democratic sources first told NBC News on Wednesday.

Outrageous: Century-Old Redwood Trees OK'd For Lumber Harvest, Despite Objections | 05 July 2016 | Cal Fire has approved a timber harvest plan that involves logging century-old redwood trees along the Sonoma County coast despite the objections of environmental advocates. The Press Democrat reports that environmental advocates may challenge the 330-acre "Dogwood" harvest plan that the state fire and forest agency approved Friday. Gualala Redwood Timber Inc. acquired the land along the lower Gualala River in the northwest corner of Sonoma County last year.
