The coup will be a perfect opportunity for Erdoğan to cleanse the now cluttered stables. Its failure will permit him a moment of self-satisfied reflection while speaking about that fragile, if not fictional beast called national unity. The generals will continue to wonder, and wait. “Everyone,” lamented the architect of the 1980 coup, General Kenan Evren, “speaks of national unity, but unfortunately everyone fails to bring it about.”

It is not anger or frustration but simple horror and doom that one is immersed in. A non partisan observer is bound to baulk at the ‘colossal waste’ on which every new crop of humanity has been grown on Kashmir’s century after century- only to feed the cannon.

On the day I drove through Qalandiya, I recall my dad reminding me repeatedly how I should be extra careful how I am perceived by Israelis while on the road as anything they deem suspicious could have fatal consequences. It has become standard in recent months for Israelis to judge any driving irregularities or accidents to be deliberate vehicular attacks, prompting Israelis to attack the driver and ask questions later.

In your prime time coverage of 5th July on Cabinet expansion, you rightly pointed out the disproportional dominance of Brahmins in the Modi cabinet including Gadkari, Jaitely, Javdekar, Swaraj, Ananth Kumar, J. P. Nadda, Parrikar, etc. The great paradox was, while you were discussing this, you had Abhay Dubey, Vidya Subramaniam, Akhilesh Sharma and Sunita Airan apart from you on the panel – which means a majority of Brahmins! I am not sure you realized this Irony
