CLG Exclusive: Trigger Warnings, Safe Spaces, Bias Reporting: The New Micro-techniques of Surveillance and Control By Michael Rectenwald, Ph.D. www.legitgov.org | 12 Sept 2016 | A singular orthodoxy has infiltrated the discursive parameters of U.S. and other universities and colleges. This orthodoxy now constitutes the ethical vocabulary of academia. Adopted from feminism, anti-racism, and LGBTQ theory and practice, the language, doctrines, and mechanisms of this orthodoxy now dominate academia's policies, procedures and handbooks...While innumerable articles have appeared on one or another of these topics (mostly on trigger warnings and safe spaces), no one has explained the structural provenance nor analysed the probable effects of these developments as a whole. Nor has anyone provided a theoretical or historical framework with which to understand them.

Senate investigator breaks silence about CIA's 'failed cover-up' of torture report | 09 Sept 2016 | The man at the center of the US Senate’s landmark investigation of the CIA torture program has gone public for the first time about an experience that led to the CIA spying on him as part of what he calls a "failed cover-up". For six years, Daniel Jones was the chief investigator for the Senate intelligence committee's inquiry into CIA detentions and interrogations carried out in the post-9/11 Bush era. Jones and his team turned 6.3m pages of internal CIA documents into a scathing study which concluded that torture was ineffective and that the CIA had lied about it to two presidents, Congress and the US public...The CIA accessed Jones's work and even reconstructed his emails, sparking an unprecedented clash between the agency and its legislative overseers on Capitol Hill.

9/11 victims could be allowed to sue Saudi Arabia over alleged ties to attack | 09 Sept 2016 | The United States house of representatives voted Friday to pass a bill that would allow the families of victims of the 11 September terror attacks to sue Saudi Arabia's government for damages. The legislation was passed by a voice vote in the chamber four months after it was approved by the senate and is symptomatic of a growing desire in Washing to re-examine it's alliance with the oil-rich kingdom which has, for decades,  been treated as America's untouchable ally. Ted Poe, a Republican congressmen from Texas who voted on the bill said the American government needs to be more concerned about the families of the Twin Towers victims than "diplomatic niceties".

According to Kerry, the plan is to ensure that Syrian government forces will not carry out combat missions where the so-called moderate opposition is present. Kerry also outlined an establishment of the Russian-US Joint Implementation Centre (JIG) that would serve the purpose of "delineation of territories controlled by Al-Nusra and opposition groups in the area of active hostilities."

Some 13 hours after the start of the marathon Russian-US negotiations, Lavrov emerged to offer the reporters five boxes of pizza pie and two bottles of vodka. "The pizza is from the Americans, the vodka is from us," the Foreign Minister exclaimed, to the amusement of the journalists.

Former DNC chairman calls for Clinton contingency plan | 12 Sept 2016 | A former Democratic National Committee chairman says President Barack Obama and the party's congressional leaders should immediately come up with a process to identify a potential successor candidate for Hillary Clinton for the off-chance a health emergency forces her out of the race. "I think the plan should be developed by 6 o’clock this afternoon," said Don Fowler, who helmed the DNC from 1995 to 1997, during Bill Clinton’s presidency, and has backed Hillary Clinton since her 2008 presidential bid. Fowler said he expects Clinton to fully recover from her bout with pneumonia, which forced her to leave a Sept. 11 memorial event early and cancel an early-week fundraising swing. But he said the Democratic Party would be mistaken to proceed without a contingency plan.

Secret Service followed atypical protocol with Clinton's early departure from Sunday 9/11 event | 11 Sept 2016 | The U.S. Secret Service followed atypical protocol with Hillary Clinton's early departure from Sunday's commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at Ground Zero. In a widely circulated video of the Democratic presidential nominee's departure from the ceremony, Clinton can be seen leaning against a security bollard and then buckling and stumbling as her security detail helps her into a black van. According to two former Secret Service agents who reviewed the video, the detail clearly had to rush and did not expect Clinton to leave at that time...The incident also raised questions about Clinton's traveling group of reporters, which she left behind at Ground Zero when she departed unexpectedly, leaving the press with no knowledge of her whereabouts or condition for about 90 minutes.

At first her campaign team claimed that Mrs Clinton had "overheated". But her doctor was later forced to admit that she had been diagnosed on Friday with a much more serious illness.

Video of Clinton's hurried departure from the Ground Zero memorial showed her buckling and stumbling as she got into her van. Clinton's campaign issued a statement from her doctor later Sunday revealing that she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier. The video, circulated on Twitter, appeared to show Clinton, 68, flanked by several Secret Service agents who are regulars on her detail, leaning against a security bollard while agents prepare to help her into a black van. The former Secretary of State then appears to fall forward toward the door of the van before being bundled inside.

In an effort to explain the support behind Trump, Clinton went on to describe the rest of Trump supporters as people who are looking for change in any form because of economic anxiety and urged her supporters to empathize with them. "To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

Jill Stein in Iowa: I would not have assassinated Osama bin Laden | 11 Sept 2016 | Dr. Jill Stein, the Green Party's candidate for president, said Sunday in Iowa that she would not have assassinated Osama bin Laden but would have brought him to justice for his role in the attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. "I think assassinations...they're against international law to start with and to that effect, I think I would not have assassinated Osama bin Laden but would have captured him and brought him to trial," Stein said.
