US-trained former Tajik Special Forces colonel is appointed top ISIS battlefield commander in Iraq - reports | 05 Sept 2016 | A US-trained former Special Forces colonel from Tajikistan, who defected last year, has reportedly been appointed a new top ISIS battlefield commander in Iraq..."There's information in the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL [but still I-CIA-SIS]) that Tajik Gulmurod Khalimov was named the new chief military commander of ISIS, after the murder of the previous leader Abu Omar al-Shishani," a source in Nineveh province, where ISIS stronghold of Mosul is located, told Iraqi Al Sumaria. Khalimov, 41, admitted that from 2003 to 2014, he participated in five counterterrorism training courses in the United States and in Tajikistan, through the US State Department's Diplomatic Security/Anti-Terrorism Assistance program. Part of the training, according to the Tajik commander, was conducted by the private American military consultancy previously known as Blackwater.
 
US to fly 'radiation sniffer' jet off Korean Peninsula | 08 Sept 2016 | The US Air Force is expected to start flying its "radiation sniffer" jet off the Korean Peninsula in the coming hours to take air samples to see if it can determine a nuclear event occurred in North Korea on Friday morning. The Air Force WC-135 jet, dubbed the "Constant Phoenix," will look for distinctive elements a nuclear test of any type would emit into the air. The collected samples can be analyzed to determine exactly what occurred. Japan's Air Self Defense Force also said it was sending four jets to collect airborne dust for radiation samples.
 
North Korea suspected to have conducted fifth and largest nuclear test | 09 Sept 2016 | North Korea was likely to have conducted its fifth and largest nuclear test on Friday, South Korean officials and analysts said after meteorological agencies reported a surface-level seismic tremor near the North's known test site. U.S., European and Chinese agencies reported that the tremor was recorded at 0030 GMT. The U.S. Geological Survey and European agencies measured the tremor at a magnitude of 5.3. A South Korea government official and the meteorological agency said it was a suspected nuclear test, and Seoul called an emergency meeting of its National Security Council.
 
At least 40 killed in multiple blasts in 4 govt-held Syrian cities - reports | 05 Sept 2016 | A series of deadly explosions have rocked at least four government-held cities in Syria, including the capital, Damascus. Local media reports over 40 people have been killed and some 60 injured in the blasts. Two explosions have rocked the highway well short of the entrance to the Syrian port-city of Tartus, western Syria, which houses a Russian naval base...Sana news agency reported that some 30 people have been killed in the blasts and some 45 injured.
 
U.N. nuclear agency says Iran sticking to nuclear deal | 08 Sept 2016 | Iran has kept to a nuclear deal it agreed with six world powers last year limiting its stockpiles of substances that could be used to make atomic weapons, a report by the U.N. nuclear agency found. The confidential report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) seen by Reuters did not point to any violations in Tehran's observance of the deal which was opposed by hardliners inside Iran and by skeptics in the West. "Throughout the reporting period, Iran had no more than 130 metric tonnes of heavy water...Iran's total enriched uranium (up to 3.67 percent purity) stockpile did not exceed 300 kg," the report said, citing the nuclear deal's limits on the two substances.
 
US spy planes intercepted near Russian border had transponders off - Russian MoD | 07 Sept 2016 |  US spy planes have twice tried to approach the Russian border over the Black Sea with their transponders off, the Russian Defense Ministry said, adding that SU-27 fighter jets were scrambled in response. "On September 7, the US P-8 Poseidon surveillance airplanes tried to approach the Russian border twice…with their transponders off," Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said in a statement. The SU-27 fighter jets that intercepted the US aircraft were acting "in strict accordance with international flight rules," the statement reads.

The Russian president's favourite chauffeur was killed in the horror collision, which was captured in shocking CCTV footage. Putin was not in the car at the time. Russian media reports that the president's official driver was killed in the crash.

The pair, aged 19 and 20, were held in a dawn raid at their West London home after a massive undercover security operation. They are suspected of trying to get automatic weapons and bomb-making chemicals to stage their own Islamic State-inspired atrocity. Security sources described the alleged conspiracy as ‘significant’, with evidence the men may have been considering multiple targets.
 
Four men charged with terror offences after Birmingham raid | 08 Sept 2016 | Four men from the Midlands have been charged with planning terrorist acts after a major security operation saw the bomb squad called to examine suspect material in a central Birmingham property. The men were arrested on 26 August in a series of raids in Birmingham and Stoke and counter-terrorism officials believe they may have disrupted a plot to attack Britain which was possibly imminent. Each of the four charged men is accused of preparing terrorist acts between 26 May and 27 August 2016.
 
10,000 tons of radioactive water pools in Fukushima nuclear plant trenches | 23 Aug 2016 | Around 10,000 tons of contaminated radioactive water have pooled in underground trenches around the Nos. 1 to 4 reactor buildings of the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, according to the plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. Tokyo Electric has no immediate plan to remove the water in the trenches where cables run for the nuclear power complex devastated by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster...The level of radioactive cesium remains unchecked at 40 locations in the trenches due to high radioactive levels as well as debris and other objects blocking the research operation.
 
Expert plays down TEPCO ban of term 'meltdown' in Fukushima nuclear crisis --Panel head said U.S. nuclear regulators 'typically do not use the word meltdown' | 04 Sept 2016 | The head of a panel of international nuclear experts has played down the importance of the decision by Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) to not use the term "core meltdown" in describing the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex in the early days of the disaster in 2011...Dale Klein, the head of the five-expert panel called the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee overseeing TEPCO's nuclear safety efforts, spoke at a press conference on Friday. Klein, former U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission chairman, referred to the instruction by then President Masataka Shimizu to not use the term "core meltdown", which was revealed in June by a third-party commission which had investigated the utility's handling of the nuclear disaster.
 
5 confirmed cases of Zika at Fort Bragg | 06 Sept 2016 | The U.S. Army says five service members based out of Fort Bragg have been confirmed to have contracted the Zika virus while serving overseas. The infections were discovered during routine blood tests when they returned from overseas duty. Spokeswoman Elizabeth Gerhart said Tuesday the five cases involved service members or retired military members who traveled outside the U.S., and none has experienced any Zika-related complications.

The Republican presidential nominee told the forum the Russian president "has been a leader far more than our president [Obama] has been". [*Exactly.*] Quizzed by NBC host Matt Lauer on his previous complimentary remarks about Mr Putin, Mr Trump responded: "He does have an 82% approval rating." 
Trump, Clinton court Ohio as White House race enters final two months | 06 Sept 2016 | Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton opened a final two-month sprint to the Nov. 8 election on Monday with the Republican presidential nominee suddenly looking stronger as he and his Democratic rival took their bitter fight to Ohio. Both Trump and Clinton made overtures to a news media that each candidate sees as often hostile to them, talking to reporters on their private planes. For a time, their planes were parked about 200 yards apart at the Cleveland airport, a sign of Ohio's importance in the election.

Trump's campaign released an open letter on Tuesday from about 90 retired generals and military officials endorsing his presidential campaign, urging a "long overdue course correction in our national security posture." The letter in support of Mr. Trump, signed by 88 retired military figures, comes as the campaign prepares for a week focused on national security, with a forum hosted by NBC and MSNBC on Wednesday evening alongside Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee. "The 2016 election affords the American people an urgently needed opportunity to make a long overdue course correction in our national security posture and policy," the letter states.
 
Goldman Sachs Bans Employees from Donating to Trump --Timing of rule, which OKs Clinton contributions, will be questioned. | 06 Sept 2016 | Goldman Sachs has enacted a set of rules that bans the firm's top employees from contributing to certain campaigns, including the Trump-Pence ticket. The rules kicked in Sept. 1 and will apply only to partners of the firm...The people in the Trump campaign are sure to question the timing. In the memo, a copy of which was obtained by Fortune, Goldman specifically mentions the Trump-Pence campaign as an example of one Goldman partners can no longer support. At the same time, the rules do not restrict donations to Clinton-Kaine.
 
Hillary Clinton Starts Speech With Massive Coughing Fit | 05 Sept 2016 | Hillary Clinton had a massive coughing fit as she began a Labor Day campaign rally in Cleveland, Ohio. She had trouble speaking and thanking local elected officials and had to stop multiple times to cough and clear her throat. Clinton's voice did not return to normal for the rest of the speech. "Every time I think about Trump I get allergic," Clinton quipped.
 
Hillary Clinton Courts Henry Kissinger's Endorsement Even After Meeting His Victims | 03 Sept 2016 | Hillary Clinton's campaign has been seeking the endorsement of former Secretary of State [Grade 'A' sociopath] Henry Kissinger, and their efforts may p-y off, as there are reports that he is expected soon, alongside former Secretary of State George Schultz [under President Ronald Reagan], to issue a joint endorsement of Clinton. While those inside the national security community in Washington, D.C., may applaud the endorsement, Kissinger's legacy of war crimes -- from complicity in the 1973 coup in Chile to spearheading the saturation bombing of Indochina -- has made him far less popular among human rights observers. Clinton is well aware of that legacy. As secretary of state, she traveled to areas of the world that were devastated by policies Kissinger crafted and implemented.
 
Latest presidential poll: Donald Trump tied with Hillary Clinton | 04 Sept 2016 | Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is effectively tied with Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House, according to the latest Reuters/Ipsos national poll. The poll showed Trump with the backing of 40 percent of likely voters as compared to 39 percent supporting Clinton. Clinton's numbers are down 8 percentage points from the previous Reuters' poll conducted at the end of August.
 
Tensions Mount as Native American Tribe Fights to Block Oil Pipeline | 07 Sept 2016 |  A multibillion-dollar pipeline being built through land claimed by Native Americans to be culturally sensitive has sparked outrage, protest and heartbreak among tribe members who say sacred sites are being "bulldozed." A judge ordered a temporary halt to construction on part of the 1,172-mile Dakota Access pipeline after tensions between protesters and workers escalated over the weekend. Witnesses say private security workers unleashed pepper spray and pit bulls on a crowd of men, women, and some children who were protesting the pipeline over the weekend...It was an escalation following months of demonstrations over the controversial pipeline whose fate will be decided in court later this week.
 
Private security forces attack Native American protesters with dogs, pepper spray | 05 Sept 1016 | On Saturday, September 3, members of the Red Warrior and Sacred Stones Camps from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and their supporters, who have been peacefully protesting near the construction site of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in Cannon Ball, North Dakota were attacked by private security forces hired by Dakota Access, LLC, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer Partners. The private security force deployed attack dogs, pepper spray and physical force to repel protesters from the construction site. Six protesters were reportedly bitten, including a pregnant woman, a dozen were pepper sprayed, and multiple physical assaults were reported...State police posted at the site did not intervene when the attacks occurred.
 
Florida raises allowable limits of cancer-causing chemicals in drinking water ahead of fracking boom | 24 Aug 2016 | On Tuesday, July 26, Florida's Environmental Regulation Commission voted 3-2 in favor of passing controversial new water quality standards that will raise the maximum allowable levels of more than two dozen cancer-causing chemicals to be dumped into the state's rivers and streams. The new standards, which were based on Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recommendations, were passed despite strong opposition from clean water advocates who say that the move poses a serious health threat and paves the way for widespread fracking operations in the state.
 
College students are told they can't say 'you guys' because it might be sexist --Clark University in Worcester, Mass, has hired a chief diversity officer --She informed freshmen on 'microaggressions' they should avoid | 08 Sept 2016 | Freshmen at a college orientation event have been told not to address other students with the phrase 'you guys' because it could be interpreted as excluding women. Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, has hired a chief diversity officer, Sheree Marlowe, who has directed students on how to avoid subtle insults known as 'microaggressions'...Last year professors at the University of California were urged not to use a number of 'offensive' phrases, such as describing America as a 'melting pot' or the 'land of opportunity'. The phrases were included on a list of 'microaggressions' faculty members have been advised not to use, fearing they could be deemed sexist or racist.
