Donald Trump, North Korea And Nuclear Brinkmanship
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

It is with some relief that the little tub of misguided emotions managed to see his project explode in mid-experiment, possibly with US cyber intervention, but it would have also given much dark amusement to have seen the US military misfire in its imperial presumption.    The cult of war continues to enchant those who know little of it.

USA Moves Toward Major Intervention In Yemen

The USA, according to Defense Secretary “Mad Dog” Mattis, he who ordered the use of chemical weapons in Fallujah, Iraq, is about to take a major step towards direct intervention in support of the Saudi Arabia war on the Yemeni people.
According to Jeffrey St. Clair, Editor of Counterpunch, this war has already seen 90,000 Saudi airstrikes on Yemen, or one every 12 minutes, 123 a day for two years now. With direct US military involvement it will only get worse for the USA has been limiting its involvement to fueling, arming and target selection for the Saudi military.
The UN and the international media claim only 12,000 or so deaths in Yemen but this just doesn’t add up. If there have been 90,000 airstrikes that means that only one Yemeni is killed for every 8 strikes? They must take us for idiots, or more likely, just to ignorant and brainwashed to know better.

Reactive Mismeasures: The New Yorker and the “New” Cold War Propaganda (Part 2)- Cold War 2.0
by Thomas Riggins

This  is the second part (of 5 ) of a paragraph by paragraph commentary on a recent article posing as journalism in the March 6, 2017 issue of The New Yorker. I hope to demonstrate that this article is basically a totally mendacious concoction of cold war US propaganda constructed out of unsubstantiated opinions expressed by US government officials and various journalists and others who are hostile to the current Russian government

BJP’s Rise in UP Shows the Need for a Real Progressive Alternative and Not Votebank Politics
by Kishalaya Mukhopadhyay

What would explain such a colossal defeat of the “Mandal” forces against the forces of Manu? Is it merely a result of tampering of voting machines? Is it because of the family feud in SP? Or is it attributable to the fact that Mayawati had tried to ally with non-Dalits which left the Dalits fuming? Or was it because both SP and BSP failed to understand the changing nature of middle class Dalits? While all of these may have a role to play, what most analyses seem to overlook is the obvious limitation of the politics of representation, i.e. the political version of trickle-down economics, that offering party tickets to representatives of an ethnic group or community will ensure electoral success.

Deconstructing Yogi’s Meat Politics
by Aftab Alam

he government should come out with more pragmatic solutions than frantic and knee-jerk actions. The government cannot also ignore the interests of the farmers too as they are badly hit by the drive as they are not able to dispose of even unproductive cattle and buffaloes at the same time they cannot afford to feed them and are forced to leave them uncared.

Photo Essay: Okhla Sabzi Mandi, Life in Action
by Arunima Gururani

Okhla Mandi is not our regular local fruits and vegetable market (sabzi mandi). It is a place of high activity and economic exchange. It all begins with trucks coming in full of fruits and vegetables at night and throughout the morning. These are then unloaded and the wholesalers keep an account of how much goes where and is sold at what price.
