Vermont’s U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy: A budget that divides

President Trump just released his budget for 2018, and it is a blueprint for dividing our country.
To pay for a drastic increase in defense spending, President Trump has proposed next year to cut over $50 billion to education, social services, health research, environmental protection programs, international diplomacy, and more. Over the next 10 years, he plans to cut $1.5 trillion from these programs!
Trump's unconscionable budget would have dangerous consequences for our country, and we cannot stand for it.
Trump's budget would slash programs that help young workers and middle-class families who are putting all they can into beating back personal debt and trying to get ahead. The budget also puts our national security at risk as it decimates the State Department and diplomacy initiatives.
The effects of this Trump budget would be vast and far-reaching. Lowlights include slashed funds for rental assistance programs, food programs for seniors, and legal aid services; dozens of EPA and scientific research programs gutted; and the stripping of crucial billions in funding for Pell Grants and early childhood education.

Thank you for taking action today.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
