CounterCurrents: For The Love Of Earth, Can we give up so easily?

Dear Friend,

Ugo Bardi recently wrote that humanity has reached the Senecca Cliff  when it comes to Climate Change. Global Warming denial is no longer possible now. David Korten puts forward another problem. "Disgusted by our long history of violence and abuse against one another and Earth, we humans seem ready to abandon hope for ourselves." Can we give up so easily? He suggests "Might our love for her hold the key both to her salvation and to ours? Might we, by willful choice, transition from Earth exploiters to Earth healers? "

Farooque Chowdhury and Fred Magdoff interview Christina Schiavoni and bust the propaganda built by the mainstream media about Venezuela.

The University of Oxford students interview Dr Franklin Lamb who worked long years in Lebanon and Syria, someone who has indepth knowledge about both countries. He has some suggestions to achieve peace in Syria.

Also more stories from around the world.

I hate to say it, but I have to say it to save CC, our fund raising is going slow. Please lend a helping hand to keep CC survive http://www.countercurrents.org/subscription/

For The Love Of Earth
by David Korten

Disgusted by our long history of violence and abuse against one another and Earth, we humans seem ready to abandon hope for ourselves. But what of our Earth mother? Might our love for her hold the key both to her salvation and to ours? Might we, by willful choice, transition from Earth exploiters to Earth healers?

The Flawed Institution: Australian Marriage And The Same-Sex Debate
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

It’s a pretty curious thing to see: marriage being defended at all.  Like slavery, and not necessarily inconsistent with it, marriage is an institution. It embraces codes. It imparts obligations, duties, and rights.  And it creeps up on you. In Australia, flawed campaigns are being waged in its name.  This has been occasioned by an absence of parliamentary will

Political Rats aka Kursi Kumars
by Oliver DSouza

After Nitish Kumar abandoned the Mahaghatbandhan to form a government with the BJP in Bihar, someone aptly coined a new term for him: ‘Khursi Kumar’. He has fooled no one with his rhetoric of having ended the alliance on the isssue of corruption; the people have long learnt to smell a political rat.

The Heart Of A Professional Banker
by Moin Qazi

He conveyed through his nuanced suggestions that, as a banker, I should have the head of a hawk and the soul of a dove. The hawk worries about the safety of the bank’s money; the dove wants the maximum number of individuals to get access to banking and in turn assistance by way of loans at soft terms of interest.

Naturalizing Everyday Violence In Mizoram
Co-Written by Shyamal Bikash Chakma & Asem Chanu Manimala

The state of Mizoram instead of exploiting the project of identity and nationalism, they must build an environment where humanity thrives and uphold the identity of ‘land of peace’

GURU or GODMAN
by Prety Bhagat

The recent conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim of the Dera Sacha Sauda for sexual violence not only depicts the exploitation of religious sentiments of the people but also a disservice to the efforts of saints who have actually worked for the progress of the society. It was more surprising to witness his follower’s refusal to accept court’s verdict who in the wake of anger took resort to violence by destroying public property.
