CounterCurrents: The Rohingya Genocide And Inadequate Response From Bangladesh

Dear Friend,

A genocide is going on in Myanmar under the auspices of another nobel peace laureate. Taj Hashmi argues that Bangladesh has a historical responsibility to do more for these hapeless victims.

The U.S Ambassador to UN Nikki Haley, has argued an oil embargo on North Korea. Dr Binoy Kampmark puts it succinctly, " To forcibly cut off a state from its lifelines, to render it an economic invalid, can also be tantamount to a declaration of conflict, a form of begging, in fact, for war."

Also more stories from around the world.

I hate to say it, but I have to say it to save CC, our fund raising is going slow. Please lend a helping hand to keep CC survive http://www.countercurrents.org/subscription/

The Rohingya Genocide And Inadequate Response From Bangladesh
by Taj Hashmi

“Genocide” is the right word to describe the ongoing mass killing, rape, and expropriation of Rohingyas in Mayanmar. One finds all the elements of what constitute a genocide present in Myanmar with regard to the persecution of Rohingyas, such as intentional action to destroy a people, usually an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group, in whole or in part

Beggars for War: The US, North Korea And Bankruptcy
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

Historical analogies do offer useful illustrations, even if superficial. The one that stands out here is not only that threats of war can loose their edge of pantomime.  (Will you really fire the first shot?)  To forcibly cut off a state from its lifelines, to render it an economic invalid, can also be tantamount to a declaration of conflict, a form of begging, in fact, for war.

Kenya’s “Null And Void” Election
by Thomas C Mountain

It seemed as though last months election in Kenya would be, as always, stolen fair and square. Instead a Supreme Court hand picked by the Kenyatta Royal Family revolted and for the first time in African history declared the election “null and void” and ordered a re-vote.

Lacking Transparency: Israeli Drones And Australian Defence
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

A certain part of you should go on vacation when a drone company, certainly one dedicated to killing, gets less custom to do what it does best.  The only problem in this case is that the winning party will also be a manufacturer of killer drones. Where there is unscrupulous demand, a willing if soiled supplier is always happy to step in.

Israel’s Justice Minister Shaked Speaks The Truth
by Dr Ludwig Watzal

There, said it! Zionism contradicts not only human rights but also universal justice. Zionism is above all. No less than the Israeli Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked said this at a conference organized by the Israeli Bar Association in Tel Aviv. Haaretz journalist Gideon Levy call her “Israel’s Minister of Truth.” Right-wing Zionist ideology negates human rights.

Decimation Of The Left: Whose Loss Is It Anyway…!
by Viswanathan Ramchandran

The alternative set of policies in the Left armoury, the ideology of the Left and its sense of the present are the best weapons for combating the Sangh Parivar rule, although this is an unpalatable fact and lies contrary to this truth are being fed into popular consciousness in numerous ways.

The Question Of Indian-ness In Dark Times
by Abu Osama

To be a silent witness and keeping oneself aloof can be criminal.Perhaps, we are living through one of the most difficult times in the history of our nation, with very little gleam of hope in such dark times. In this extreme depressing and disappointing time one is compelled to remember one of the finest contemporary writers and a master narrator- Rahi Masoom Raza.
