A friend was sent to teach calculus to high school students in a former Confederate Southern State.
The High School Seniors couldn't do BASIC MATH - adding, subtraction, multiplying, dividing.
This is FUNCTIONAL ILLITERACY!
The purpose of education is to instill the quest for lifetime learning, not to consider the minimal education received in high school is all there is.
These poorly educated Americans might think others are taking their jobs when in fact they're too ignorant to do much else.
