BEDFORD, MA – A Bedford woman was hospitalized after her car crashed into a building at the Bedford Market Place Wednesday morning, officials said. Emergency crews responded to Great Road around 8:20 a.m. and found the car, a 2014 Honda CRV, crashed into an unoccupied storefront between Comella's and barre3 Bedford.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to pull the driver, a 61-year-old Bedford woman, out of the car. She was transported to Lahey Hospital with serious injuries, police and fire officials said.
The crash damaged the building's door frame and some of its brick work. The building inspector has since deemed it safe.
Investigators said the car drove approximately 650 feet, starting at the Whole Foods on the opposite end of the plaza, and moved across the parking lot and over a median, striking a steel bench and parked car. Authorities believe the driver may have had a medical emergency before the crash.
The car sustained significant front end damage and was towed from the scene.
No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.

Honda Admits Software Problem,
Recalls 175,000 Hybrids

MADISON, Wis. — For the first time, an automobile company has
conceded that a software glitch in electronic control units could
cause cars to accelerate suddenly, forcing drivers to scramble to
take emergency measures to prevent an accident. Honda Motor
Co., citing software problems, announced Thursday that it is
recalling 175,000 hybrid vehicles in Japan.

Honda revealed that some hybrid versions of its Fit and Vezel
subcompacts could suddenly accelerate without warning.

Honda, Yes Honda, Recalls 175,000 Cars
For Unintended Acceleration

Unintended acceleration: It's not just for pedal-confused people in Toyotas
anymore! About 175,000 Japanese examples of the 2015 Honda Fit are being
recalled for potential "the kind of speed you don't want"-type problems.

Bloomberg reports that all new hybrid Honda Fit subcompact and Vezel small
crossover models sold in Japan since last will be recalled due to a software
problem with the engine control system. They did not elaborate, but said the
problem could lead to unintended acceleration.

Unexpected Acceleration
Has anyone experienced unexpected acceleration with their Accord? My beautiful, bought brand new 2016
Honda Accord EX with 9500 miles, last month decided to rev up her engine and plunge forward, picking up
speed, as I was turning right, slowly, into a parking spot with my foot on the brake. She wasn't stopping, I
had both feet on the brake by then, she drove up over the curb, crumpled a steel bike rack and hit the
brick building, digging a hole. Front end smashed In My airbag deployed. I had air bag burns and internal
bruising. Car was towed to body shop, I called American Honda because this was not my fault. They sent a
Honda representative to examine the car, could find nothing wrong, and refused to accept any
responsibility. $10,000 in repairs, left with a one year old Accord that has been wrecked and is dangerous
to drive. Is now sitting in my garage. Useless. A miracle that no one was walking in front of my car, they
would have been killed. Just wondering if this problem has shown up in your Accords.

Sudden acceleration

When I was pulling into a parking spot, moving slowly, the car
suddenly surged forward, jumped the curb and flattened a parking
sign. One moment the car was in the parking space and the next it
was up on the grass.

There's no way that a driver pulling into a parking spot would ever
use the amount of force it would have taken to jam the gas pedal
down enough to cause the car to do that, if it would even be
possible.

I've seen a lot of information on the Internet about Honda and
sudden acceleration. The dealer said there is nothing from Honda
stating a known problem in the 2017 HR-V.

I was in a parking lot and pulling into a spot. My car suddenly took off as though i had my foot hard on the gas.
I slammed on the brakes, but did not stop until my car jumped a curb and crashed into the wall of the building
in front of me. I was able to back out and park my car after this. It still runs and there is minimal damage to the
front of the car, but I am more concerned about what mechanical or electrical defect caused my car to accelerate
without my engaging the gas pedal. I've seen other complaints where Honda came back saying it was user error
or something with the floor mat, but my floor mat was secured and not anywhere near the pedals. This car was
purchased in February 2016 and this occurred in August 2016. It is hard to explain, but felt as though my car had
a mind of its own. I know i did not have my foot on the wrong pedal or accidentally accelerate instead of braking.
There was a good 20 feet between where i began to turn into the spot and where i hit the wall, and i could have
stopped if my brakes had responded.

2012 TSX Sportwagon Unintended Acceleration While
Stopeed

My wife's 2012 TSX Sportwagon has been suddenly
going to very high RPM's while stopped at a light.
It's happened three times within the last three days,
all while running errands in town driving. It has
scared the bejeebers out of her and now she's afraid
to drive it. I've checked the pedal for obstructions,
and her shoe size is petite so, no, it's not a case of
wide foot catching brake and accelerator. No check
engine light accompanied the event and naturally
I've taken it out and can't replicate the
predicament. Any sage advice on why this is
happening and more importantly how I can fix it?
Many thanks.
