When Americans begin serving as Members of Congress, they swear an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. It’s the same oath for everybody. There isn't a Red oath and a Blue oath. There isn’t one oath for Democrats and another oath for Republicans. There isn’t one oath for Jews and another one for Muslims, like different-colored license plates in the West Bank. It’s the same oath for every Member of Congress.
Last week, twelve Democratic Members of the House broke their oath to defend the Constitution. Five of them – the #Famine5 – voted against Ro Khanna’s amendment to end unconstitutional U.S. participation in the Saudi-UAE war in Yemen, which is deliberately causing a famine. Seven of them – the #WarPowerSegregationist7 – voted the right way on Yemen War Powers, but then turned around and voted against Khanna’s amendment to block Trump’s unconstitutional threats to bomb Iran. As if there’s one Constitution for Yemen War Powers, and another Constitution for Iran War Powers. One drinking fountain for not unconstitutionally bombing Yemen, and a separate, unequal drinking fountain for not unconstitutionally bombing Iran. Together, the #Famine5 and the #WarPowerSegregationist7 make up the dirty dozen of the #ConstitutionAbuseCaucus12.
Defending the Constitution of the United States is a collective responsibility. Friends don’t let friends drive drunk. Friends don’t let friends desecrate the Constitution of the United States. @HouseDemocrats have a collective responsibility to denounce the #Famine5, the #WarPowerSegregationist7, and the #ConstitutionAbuseCaucus12.
