Quick signature needed: Tell Congress to block Trump’s climate-denying UN nominee

Demand your senators reject climate denier Kelly Knight Craft's nomination!
The UN has sounded the alarm: Humans are harming the natural world and driving extinction at a pace “unprecedented in human history.”
If we’re going to change course and protect people and the environment around the world, our leaders must take bold action. Our Ambassador to the UN needs to stand behind the important scientific research done by the UN, let alone acknowledge it.
But Trump recently nominated extremist climate denier Kelly Knight Craft to be the next UN Ambassador. Your senators have the power to block Knight Craft’s nomination, but they will only act if they hear the demand from engaged environmentalists like you.
The UN is responsible for addressing issues from human rights and gender equity to the climate catastrophe. Ambassadors play a key role in setting the UN’s policy agenda. They must prioritize the needs of everyday people, especially those who are most vulnerable, not Big Business. Kelly Knight Craft is the wrong person for the job.
Knight Craft is married to the CEO of Alliance Resource Partners -- a major U.S. coal company.
During her 15-month tenure as Trump’s ambassador to Canada, she has frequently been absent from her post in Ottawa and has used her husband’s private jet to make over 125 international flights.
Her track record shows that she can’t be trusted to represent the U.S. internationally, not to mention her failure to perform her job at the most basic level -- showing up for work! We deserve a UN Ambassador who will support solutions to climate change, who believes in upholding the human rights and dignity of all persons, and who will show up to make important decisions on the world stage. Knight Craft is clearly the wrong pick. And engaged environmentalists like you and me can make a major impact in the fight to block Trump’s nominee. But we must act fast!
The U.S. is the largest historic contributor to climate change. Justice demands that we do our fair share to solve the climate crisis our country caused. Our UN Ambassador needs to take our historic responsibility seriously and drive ambitious climate solutions for the U.S. to take part in.
Knight Craft belongs nowhere near the United Nations, and would only further embarrass the U.S. on the world stage. Her stances on climate, connections to the coal industry, and even her poor job performance at the most basic of levels show that she is unqualified.
But your senators will only make the right decision to reject her nomination if they feel pressure from concerned constituents like you. Can we count on your support?
Standing with you,
Karen Orenstein,
Economic policy program deputy director,
Friends of the Earth Action
