If you're considering adding a furry family member,  please consider your local shelters and local rescue groups first.

Some great volunteers and rescue group pour their heart out trying to save as many animals as possible knowing most will be euthanized, frequently by gassing.

Over 2 thousand shares later...Spot hasn't had one person come to the shelter to look at him. Every time I see Spot in his kennel I tell him not to worry...that someone will come for him. Now with the recent shelter space issues...I'm beginning to fear the day I have to tell him that I was wrong. That not one person out of the thousands wanted him. Spot's a good boy. He's 5, doesn't mind cats and is just a mellow man. He just doesn't get along with other dogs. He's been here since January 2. He's #1 Most Urgent. Could be PTS at any time. Urgent! Two young sisters need a home in Southern California! These two 7-month-old beauties were rescued from a terrible living situation. They were locked up in a small room for most of their lives. The room was filled with thousands of fleas and the floor was covered in their waste. They were not given any love or attention, the door only ever opened so that food or water could be dropped in. They are very scared and shy, but when they realize someone is trustworthy they warm up and love to cuddle and be pet. They were going to be taken to a kill shelter but luckily, they are now being given a second chance. Please rescue them and make up for the horrible lives they have been living. They need to stay together, as they have been through so much and are very bonded. Both have been treated for fleas, dewormed, vaccinated, and spayed. It is imperative that we find a foster home for our dear Louise--she is not kenneling well at all and we've been asked to remove her from the shelter. She's a volunteer favorite and a beautiful soul who truly deserves a chance to be loved. She is approx. 4-5 years old, spayed, housebroken, and will be brought UTD on shots before placement. We are seeking an experienced dog owner as Louise can be fearful of strangers initially. When introduced slowly and properly, she let's her guard down and fast becomes your best friend and snuggle buddy

Rocky was left behind by his owners to run loose on the road and go from house to house to pick up little bits of food when he could. Rocky was believed to be kicked by a horse that totally shattered his bottom jaw. Homeward Bound Canine Rescue picked Rocky up after he had been abandoned by his owners and was injured landing him in Pulaski County Animal Shelter. Surgery will be $800-$1200 leaving him with screw holding his bottom jaw together and a feeding tube in for three weeks.
