Euthanizing Family Pets!

Most animals in shelters will be euthanized. Most of them were someone's pet, a family member, simply dumped or abandoned, many left at High Kill Shelters.

By the time you read this, many will have been euthanized.

If you're considering a furry family members, please consider shelters and rescues first.

Adoption and transportation information available on links or here:

Distance should not hinder your decision.

Please support Spay & Neuter programs to reduce this tragedy.

PLEASE SHARE and DONATE if you can! Little baby Trey (just rescued from NYC ACC where he was called "Apollo") has a congenital heart disease, a severe sub-aortic stenosis. His heart is enlarged and his lungs are filled with fluid. He is in the care of cardiologist right now and is on IV meds and is receiving oxygen at the hospital RIGHT NOW to help him breathe and to stabilize him. His life saving treatment is SO expensive. Pick Your Paw Animal Rescue wants to get Trey through this crisis, and be able to give him time to play and to be loved and happy. Trey will likely not have a long life, but they want to give him a *good life.* Please help PYP to help Trey!

09/13/2013 WEB MEMO
A staff member writes: Wasabi is a meaty little roll, with the front feet of a Basset, the long body and nose of a Dachshund, and a bodacious bottom that would rival the freshest piece of fruit. You just want to squeeze it so badly...but... there's the rub. Wasabi is very clear about his private space: minimal touching allowed and be respectful. His bright eyes are sharply expressive. Out of the corners of each Wasabi watches to make sure his rules are followed. Frequent stress panting and a distinctive open mouthed sneer are evidence of his discomfort. This is not where he wants to be, but Wasabi is trying as best he can to make it through each day. This juicy fellow - love that butt- is a survivor. He ducks, weaves, and shows a pretty grill when the leash is presented but, once looped, he considers his options carefully. Should I hop out, or stand my ground? Sometimes it takes a tug. Sometimes Wasabi politely follows. Once outside, he trots along slowly, carefully planting his perfectly manicured, thick feet one after the other, ensuring he is the one to determine our pace. Wasabi keeps to himself as we walk, sniffing and stopping as he scrutinizes his surroundings. When other dogs appear he relaxes a bit: a tail wag, a few quick steps forward. Maybe he doesn't feel quite so alone. When I plant myself on the ground beside him, Wasabi stands his ground and looks away. I pull out a tiny piece of hot dog and he looks my way. I reach out and he allows the approach. His mouth trembles as he accepts the treat, then meets my gaze with a soft, expectant look. I finally have something Wasabi wants and soon I can feel the gentle lick of his tongue on my hand. Wasabi has made contact! The thrill makes me shiver. I have a lot of respect for this miniature man. His boundaries are clear, but he can adjust them when the need and desire arises. He is smart, discriminating and, even though terribly unsure of what's become of him, Wasabi has remained true to himself. As with any relationship, the participants must take time to get to know each other. It will take time to get to know the more receptive, congenial Wasabi, but what I've seen thus far assures me that it will well be worth the effort. Take a chance. Imagine how gratifying it will be to finally hug such a scrumptious and very special new friend.

Most of the time I've greeted him, he's right there at the front of his cage, a total Mr. Extrovert soliciting pettings from as many humans as he can. Other times he prefers to hang back and watch the action in the cat adoption room, taking a break and catching up on his power naps. Either way, he's always a sweet, good boy, so well-mannered that he'd be great in any type of household. If you're looking for a handsome mushball who will be there to give you affection but is also happy to score solo time, you must meat Meatball today!

URGENT!!!

Yoshi's ears have won me over!!! This boy looks very smart and energetic. Having one that is similar, he would probably benefit from training (he already knows some tricks!!!). I bet he would also love an active family that goes on walks, hikes, and has a fenced in back yard. I think Yoshi mainly wants a family to love him and help him make it safely out of the pound. The vet usually comes on Tuesdays to Pike, and Yoshi needs our help to make sure he is safe!!! Please share!!!

POUND FULL!!!

Stark County is still full and is in need of help to safely move their dogs out! I will warn you that I don't know if their PF is up to date (We know for fact Dixie is out of the pound, but is not marked as safe). Large kennels are usually the first ones on the PTS list Please continue to share, pledge, transport, foster/adopt, and so forth to continue to help save these dogs lives

Urgent Part 2 - Urgent Death Row Dogs added 3 new photos to the album New Beginnings 4.

Hi! I had adopted "Henry" the Dachshund mix. He was in the Brooklyn ACC and pulled by a rescue who allowed me to adopt him. I would love to post pictures of him for people to see. There were a lot of requests for his pictures. I do not know how to post them so people can see them on your page? Or wherever people post pics of adopted dogs...? Also, if you wanted to add him to your "new beginnings" video(s) that would be great! I watch them all the time and it is what keeps me going.

Thank you for all you do. Your efforts to save these animals are absolutely beautiful. Thanks to you, Henry is here with me and has added a lot of love and happiness to my family's lives.

Here is his original link. He has gained a good amount of weight but still has a ways to go! His Italian Grandma has been working with him. He should be a sausage very soon! LOL

And here he is...the first pic is of the day he came. The other two are from today.

MAJOR VICTORY FOR ANIMALS IN PUPPY MILLS!

USDA closes major loop hole for puppy mills selling pets online!

Great news - This is an example of what can happen when animal advocates work together!

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) just issued a rule that closes a loophole in the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). For the last decade, many puppy mill breeders have moved to selling directly to the public via Internet and phone sales in order to take advantage of an AWA loophole that has only maintained minimum standards of care, licensing, and inspection of large-scale breeders who sell to pet stores...until now.

What else you can do to help

When a friend or family member is looking to bring a new pet into their family, encourage them to consider adopting from a shelter or reputable rescue group and saving one of the millions of healthy, adoptable animals euthanized in America's shelters annually. If having a purebred animal is important to them, you can point out that about 25% of the animals in shelters actually are purebred. Shelter and rescue pets can be searched-for online by zip code, breed, size, and more at www.petfinder.com
If a friend or family member is set on purchasing a pet from a breeder, inform them that while many breeders selling online display pictures of cute puppies and kittens running through green grass or resting in a comfortable home, the reality is that many of these breeders cram hundreds of breeding animals into filthy, wire-floor cages without protection from the elements and without veterinary care. Instead of purchasing an animal sight-unseen, they should find a local breeder, check references, and physically visit their home to ensure the breeding animals are kept in responsible conditions.
