Save A Life!

Angels for Animals Network shared Frederick Wright's photo.
To say this to most of you is preaching to the choir. But please share with your "friends" who brag proudly about where they "bought" their puppy.

Most animals in shelters will be euthanized. Most of them were someone's pet, a family member, simply dumped or abandoned, many left at High Kill Shelters. By the time you read this, many will have been euthanized.

If you're considering a furry family members, please consider shelters and rescues first.

Adoption and transportation information available on links or here:
Transporting Rescued Animals - Saving Lives!
Distance should not hinder your decision.

Please support Spay & Neuter programs to reduce this tragedy.
Check back during the day. Will add as posts appear.

Please share the shelter pets with your facebook friends - networking saves lives. Also, encourage your family and friends to adopt, don't shop when looking for a family pet.

Catch this POS. VIRGINIA
And find the dog.

This black lab was dumped earlier today Westbound on Highway 360 in Essex County, VA. VA License Plate KME-5435. A Good Samaritan risked her life on a 60 MPH ...highway to try to help this dog. Animal Control last saw this dog running into the woods at Hospital Road. The Sheriff's Department is well aware. Animal Control visited the residence, and no one was home. Please share to help find this poor dog and the criminal. This dog is scared. Please do not chase it. Call the shelter at 804-443-0726 or call the Sheriff's department if you spot this dog or the man who dumped it.

Connecticut.... please!

My name is Piper. I am a 7 year old female American Bulldog. I was left in the parking lot of an Emergency Vet Hospital on a very hot day. My family deserted me... there. I was covered with scabs and missing most of my hair. I could not see out of my eyes due to dry eye issues. My ears were infected and I was suffering from severe allergies. Many Thanks to Montville Animal Control for taking me in and not giving up on me. I am now with CT Animal House and I am doing awesome! My skin has cleared and my eyes are producing tears and I have new pearly white hair coming in....and I am feeling FINE! If you have room at your place for me give Chris a call at 860-271-1361. I would love to meet you and your family and wow you with my awesome personality!See More

***EMERGENCY SITUATION*** HELP NEEDED IMMEDIATELY

The Mobile County Animal Shelter has just seized 13 trucks full of animals from a property and are en route... back to the shelter. The shelter is reportedly AT CAPACITY therefore all adoptable animals will be euthanized for space TODAY.

Please, please, please either GO NOW to the Mobile County Animal Shelter at 7665 Howells Ferry Rd, Mobile AL or let us know NOW if you can foster or adopt a dog currently on death row there. We were already told yesterday that the dogs on the urgent lists must be out today. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.

To adopt if you aren't local, or for rescue assistance, email us here to help:
adopt@saveasoutherndog.com
foster@saveasoutherndog.com

If you are local - PHYSICALLY GO TO THE SHELTER TO ADOPT.

Do not call the shelter - just go there to adopt. They will likely tell you there in no emergency - "they are just doing their jobs." Now is your chance to save a life.

A volunteer writes:
Hugs and kisses anyone? LayLonnie delivers these with gentle abundance, her adorable eyes and little smile adding to her tender gestures. She adores to be with people, her tail wagging shyly and her eyes lighting up with infinite joy as she watches you approach. Once outside, she loves to hug and cuddle, gently nestling against your side and observing the world in all its cantankerous glory! She delights in treats, sitting nicely before removing them gently from my proffered hand. She also seems curious of other dogs at times, wagging her tail timidly when they pass by her playpen. LayLonnie joined us at the Care Center after her family lost their home. According to her former owner, she is paper-trained, is cautious around children and strangers, and has lived with other dogs and cats. We are also told that she knows "all commands" and plays around cats! What this shy little girl needs now most of all, is a loving family that can provide her with the security and comforts of a forever home. Make that your compassionate action for this year - adopt LayLonnie and be rewarded beyond your wildest dreams!

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. A4619207 Jackson is a wiggly six month old brown and white Pit Bull puppy who was found in Baldwin Park on August 13th and brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter.... Weighing thirty-five pounds and likely to grow to seventy, this staff favourite and super playful puppy is a blank slate for training, but he’s eager to please and will learn quickly. He has been good with all the other dogs he has met, and we think he will be delighted to play with children. Jackson is a fantastic puppy who will make a splendid indoor pet for an active family living in a private home.

I RECEIVED THIS AT WORK TODAY, AND FELT THE NEED TO SHARE! I ONLY WISH WE HAD THE MONEY/ROOM, AS I WOULD TAKE JAKE IN A HEARTBEAT. HE IS BEAUTIFUL. (SEE HIS ...STORY BELOW) PLEASE SHARE THIS. LET'S FIND JAKE A FOREVER HOME.
_________________________________________________

Jake is a pure bred Border Collie at the Bloomington Animal Shelter. He is 1.5 years old. Bloomington is a kill shelter and the clock is ticking for Jake because he failed his last temperament test for food aggression and for jumping up and biting. That said, he’s passed two previous temperament tests. Read on for Jake’s story.

Jake's original owner got Jake as a puppy but then put Jake in an outdoor kennel in the back yard because Jake barked and the owner had no idea how to train a dog, let alone a high-drive BC. Outside of food, Jake had very little interaction with people for nearly the rest of his 1.5 years. The owner finally released Jake to the shelter, where Jake passed the temperament test and was adopted out to a man in his 70s, who then returned Jake because Jake was too high energy, and the man had wanted a guard dog.

The shelter gave Jake another temperament test, which he passed, and then adopted him out to a younger man who went on vacation the very next day, leaving Jake in the care of some friend who had no idea what to do with a high-drive dog. A few days later, Jake was once again returned to the shelter.

This time, Jake failed the temperament test for showing food aggression and for "biting." According to one of the shelter volunteers who has BCs, the "biting" is more the herding nips that BCs use to get attention, rather than serious biting issues.

I met Jake. He is a friendly dog, very typical BC temperament. He's food motivated, and smart enough to pick up on some of the engagement games in short order. I could not test toy drive, but only because the shelter dislikes tugging due to the potential for accidental bites. I am fairly certain that he's very trainable, and that a knowledgeable person would be able to work with any of his issues, which are almost certainly the result of being completely untrained and isolated.

However, the clock is ticking. Jake needs to be placed in rescue or otherwise taken in by someone who knows something about the breed. The only reason that Jake is still alive is that the shelter hopes that a rescue will step forward.

If you can't take Jake, please pass along this information to any other Border Collie or agility group. If you want to adopt Jake or place him in rescue, please contact Virgil Sauder, the manager at the Bloomington Animal Shelter.

***** PLEASE SHARE & HELP DUKE GET OUT SOON **** HE IS STRESSED BIG TIME **
We walked into the shelter tonight and witnessed Duke having a complete breakdown. Most dogs are stressed by being in the shelter, this was over the top.

Duke ...has become so stressed out by the shelter environment that he has started constantly licking his kennel walls and bars. The drool flowing out of his kennel is unbelievable. He could not calm down and he could not stop licking. Even a session of TTouch with a volunteer did very little to help him relax.

HE NEEDS HELP! Duke needs a foster, rescue or adopter ASAP. He is not the dog we met just five weeks ago. It is so heartbreaking. He just can't handle the shelter. If you can foster please fill out the foster application at the end of this post. If you are an approved shelter volunteer you are already approved to foster. If you would like more information about Duke please message us or call the shelter at (512)990-7387.

Fostering doesn't cost you anything - but lack of fosters cost these urgent animals their lives. Thanks to the foster and American Maltese Rescue for saving this sweet dog.
