From Face Book - can't agree more!
STOP THE TRASH! DON'T RELEASE THOSE MYLAR BALLOONS!
I know that I have mentioned this before (and a couple of you accused me of being a crabby old man). If you think that a Mylar foil balloon launch is a nice way to celebrate a wedding, anniversary, birthday or - in this case - a graduation, think again! They don’t just “go away” when they disappear from sight in the sky. I had to see this cluster of a dozen deflated balloons in the top of one of the tall pine trees on my property for 2½ years, until they finally made it to the ground. They are now in my trash bin and will end up in a landfill for decades to come. In case you still think that I am just a crabby old man, follow the link and read about the environmental impacts of this needless trash. They include the impact upon wildlife (particularly marine animals) that ingest them, how they have caused transformer fires and widespread power outages when getting tangled in power lines, how they may have caused the crash of a private plane (and the death of its pilot), and how they are rapidly depleting the world supply of helium. Nothing is “cool” about any of that! Feel free to share this if you would like to spread some awareness regarding this issue.
