Trial underway for man accused in fatal Winter Park day care crash

Robert Corchado charged with causing crash, trafficking in heroin

ORLANDO, Fla. -
The trial for the man accused of causing a deadly day care crash in Orange County began on Thursday with emotional testimony detailing the moments after the crash.

Robert Corchado is accused of hitting a Toyota Solara, causing it to crash into a KinderCare Child Day Care Center, and then leaving the scene in April.

The crash killed 4-year-old Lily Quintus and injured more than a dozen others.

Corchado, 29, was charged with leaving the scene of the crash, trafficking in heroin and other felonies. If convicted, he faces at least 30 years in prison.

Prosecutors began their case on Thursday saying that Corchado knew that he caused the crash and that he tried to cover it up.

Day care workers testified about the scene of the crash and jurors saw images from inside of the building.

VPK teacher Donna Brashears told jurors she was handing out snacks moments before the crash and said she gave 4-year-old Lily Quintus CPR.

Defense attorneys argue that Corchado had no idea of the destruction he left behind.
