Congressman Jim McGovern: why I’m marching

As we begin to prepare for the holidays I want to take this opportunity to speak on behalf of the millions of Americans who struggle with hunger every day.

On a cold and rainy November day last year, a group of us joined Monte Belmonte from Northampton’s WRSI – The River as we marched 26 miles from Northampton to Greenfield to raise funds for The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. Together with many of you, we raised over $65,000!

Although I remember how sore I felt after walking 26 miles, I will never forget the stories I heard along the way. People stopped their cars to show their support with donations and encouragement, and by sharing the stories of all the people they know who have experienced hunger.

We cannot let up in this fight to end hunger. That is why I am joining Monte’s March again. But this year Monte’s March will be 41 miles over 2 days. Hundreds of thousands of hungry families have been able to enjoy healthy meals because of this food bank’s efforts. I want you to help me double those efforts.

Click here to donate $41 to the Food Bank of Western MA, one dollar for every mile I’ll be marching!

Your donation will help put food on the tables of Massachusetts families this Thanksgiving, and long after that. I can think of no better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than by helping to bring food to those who are less fortunate, especially our neighbors.

Help fight hunger now by donating to my special fundraising page >>>

Because the season of giving isn’t just about talking the talk, it’s about walking the walk.

Gratefully,
Jim
