FLASH aka SABER - A1057338 - Manhattan - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/17/15 A volunteer writes: Two of my favorite breeds lumped into one pooch….Here is Flash, a cross between a Shepherd and a Rotweiler, an elderly and still quite majestic dog found as a stray. Flash must have been a giant masterpiece while in his prime. His lush and shiny coat is beautiful. His copper eyes and huge ears steal the show making me forget that his hinds are so weak and sometimes giving up…Flash could not walk when he arrived at the care center. With the help of pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications, he is strolling valiantly in the yard and even for a short distance in the street. He does slowly stairs, up and down. Flash does not care about his hips, he is ready, willing and able… A brave little soldier…He has a mighty appetite and crunches heartily on dry lung. His weight is good and besides being arthritic, Flash looks healthy. He seems to like the attention, does not mind me outfitting him with a scarf and accepts my caresses. He is a bit lost and trying to keep his bearings mentally and physically, so at this point, I have not been able to get a smile on his face. He is part of that admirable group…..Survivor ………When time came to go back to his kennel, Flash had to be helped. He was fine with me lifting his shoulders and his hips. He is a nice dog who aced his behavioral evaluation and is ready to start a new page in his life with an owner who understands and loves older dogs. Flash is at the Manhattan Care Center and together we are hoping for a miracle.

POP POPS - A1057601 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
** TO BE DESTROYED 11/17/15 ** POP POPS is a two-month-old kitten who is just learning about the wide world around him. He was brought into the ACC as a stray and what he has learned about the shelter, so far, is that he doesn’t really care for it. He quiets down when someone pets him but the instinct which tells him to flee is never far away, and that instinct is correct. This cute little boy needs a FOSTER or ADOPTER to get him far, far away from the shelter because the ACC plans to kill him tomorrow. Please don’t let this good boy go down the hard way! Advocate widely for POP POPS tonight!

HULK - A1057695 - Manhattan - Rescue Only
TO BE DESTROYED 11/17/15 Young Hulk is “hulking” his way through Manhattan ACC and he’s not been winning friends! But then, he’s a small guy who is scared to death and wondering how come his people haven’t come to get him out of this horrible, noisy, chaotic place. As much as Hulk wants to get out of that cage he’s in 24 x 7, he thinks that’s the only safe place in the shelter and tries to scare everybody away when they come too close. Needless to say, he didn’t do particularly well on his behavioral evaluation—he didn’t like to be “handled” and spent his time hunkering down and trying to make himself invisible. But interestingly, in his initial medical, staff commented that though he didn’t like to be petted, when he was out of his cage and on the ground, he’d start whining and was fine with being touched when he initiated contact. All that led to Hulk being deemed New Hope only and getting put on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. Tonight, Hulk needs someone who understands this little Min Pin / Chi mix and knows just how to make him feel safe again. But unless that someone starts working with a rescue to foster or adopt him by noon tomorrow, somebody at ACC will muster up all their “courage” to get him out of that cage, they’ll muzzle him and by hook or by crook, they’ll take him to that room from where no dog ever returns.

KALE - A1057115 - Brooklyn - Publicly Adoptable
TO BE DESTROYED 11/17/15 A volunteer writes: She might not be green and leafy, but here’s why Kale is so good for you. She is a compact mama, with a lot of cuteness happening around her mouth (that subtle underbite, those little teeth, that smile!). And the way she wiggles with her whole back end, quicker and quicker, until you expect everything around her to start shaking with her when you approach is sure to put a smile on your face. Smiling triggers the release of endorphins and reduces stress related hormones! The way she will hop over any obstacle to get to her tennis ball, chomp on it with her back end in the air, or try to keep up if you throw several in succession is sure to make you laugh. Laughter expands the lungs and replenishes your cells of oxygen! She loves walks and seems housetrained, which means you’ll get exercise, vitamin D from the sun, and have motivation to get out of bed on days you aren’t feelin’ it. How she’ll almost immediately sit entirely on your lap, so you can both take in the world together (with interludes of kisses) will make you feel loved. Feeling loved can help you live longer and even fight diseases! Even if you aren’t smiling, laughing, exercising, or cuddling, I’m pretty sure just being with such a sweet, playful, charming little lady is good for you — I love her! Come get your dose of Kale at Brooklyn ACC, see if she’s right for you, and enjoy many better tomorrows with her!

NYC KILL SHELTERS!
Bad times for these pampered love bugs!
DARLING DOT NEEDS NEW FRIEND! Doesn't this beautiful girl look super sad in her intake pic and who can blame her? Six year old Dot and her feline friend, Oliver sadly lost their home when their owner became ill and could no longer care for them. This is a super affectionate and friendly pair of purrfect felines who would love to stay together and keep their lucky new purrson company and comfy while cuddling on the couch. Could you open up your heart and home to this precious pet (and consider rescuing her pal, Oliver, too?) Please pull darling Dot from the Staten Island Center. Transportation is available by contacting one of our New Hope partners. Make the call for this precious pet NOW!!!
This sweet senior is waiting for someone very special. Could that be you? She is featured today on Massachusetts Animal Coalition's Matchmaker Monday!! We know many of you are excellent matchmakers! Let's make it happen for Esther!
