SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — Slot machine revenue at Plainridge Park Casino, the state’s only slots parlor, has dropped for the second straight month.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission said Thursday that Plainridge generated $12.6 million in gross gambling revenue in September.
The state’s first licensed gambling facility reported $18 million in slots revenue during its first full month of operation in July, falling to $15.2 million in August. Penn National Gaming, Plainridge’s parent company, said the revenue trends are consistent with other property openings where numbers tend to settle over the first few months of operation.
These numbers come at a time when Connecticut lawmakers are looking to build another casino in their state, in order to compete with MGM who is building a casino in Springfield.
In Connecticut, Foxwoods Resort Casino had a more than 3 % increase in revenue for their slot machines in September, Mohegan Sun, Connecticut’s other casino, also saw a nearly 3 % increase in slots revenue for the same month.
Under state law, 49 percent of gross gambling revenue from the slots parlor is returned to the state. Of that total, 82 percent goes to cities and towns for local aid and 18 percent to a horse racing development fund.
