EMERGENCY VIGIL AGAINST HATE AND BIGOTRY
Now is the time to speak out against extremists who seek to fuel paranoia and divisiveness.
WHEN: Thursday, December 10th, 2015 @ 4:45 PM
International Human Rights Day
WHERE: Government Center, Fall River, MA
(Intersection of South Main and Pocasset Streets)
WHAT: A call to action at this critical moment in history: we must speak out against hate.
A leading candidate for US president has called for "a total and complete shutdown" of Muslims entering the U.S. He and thousands of his followers support a national database of Muslim citizens and visitors alike. And while millions of Syrian refugees are fleeing from war and death inflicted by others, U.S. governors and members of Congress want to shut our doors to the few who would make it to our shores.
Hatred and bigotry are gifts to ISIS and extremists of every stripe. Polls show that since his latest statement this candidate's lead in New Hampshire has nearly doubled. In France the far-right National Front party has just won landslide victories across that country showing how those who play to people's basest fears and paranoia continue to thrive.
Now is the time we must speak out against hate. Now is the time to join together to welcome refugees and honor and respect people regardless of their religion, ethnicity, race and creed. There is no place in a just society for demonizing people simply based on who they are.
Solidarity and compassion are proven antidotes to this madness. Join us at a vigil this Thursday, International Human Rights Day, outside of Fall River Government Center in solidarity with people of all faiths and people of conscience everywhere to reject hate and bigotry.
Find us at the southeast corner of Government Center. Respectful signs and candles are welcome.
