Pilgrim Nuclear is the same age and design as FUKUSHIMA.
Pilgrim Nuclear is run by ENTERGY that has a problematic record not only at Pilgrim, but other plants it has owned and operated including Vermont Yankee and Indian Point.
YES read this great letter by Mary Lampert in the Column "Pilgrim watchdog calls out nuclear regulators" AND read the whole excellent column by Christine Legere too,
"The expert would be selected by the region's congressional delegation, which includes Sens. Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren, and U.S. Rep. William Keating, D-Mass.
A general lack of public trust in the commission prompted her request, Lampert wrote.
“The public is skeptical about the outcome of the upcoming inspection,” the Pilgrim Watch founder wrote. She pointed out that the plant passed a federal inspection in December 2014, but a high-pressure cooling system, “the first line of defense in an emergency shutdown at Pilgrim,” failed during a snowstorm just a month later.
“All it takes is one bad day, and the probability of that bad day increases absent an honest and thorough NRC inspection and evaluation,” Lampert wrote.
She also suggested that the independent expert not be bound by a confidentiality agreement. Ohio was allowed to have its representatives accompany federal inspectors to the Davis-Besse nuclear plant, but they were observers only. They could discuss what they saw with NRC inspectors, but no one else.
“Is there any reason for the NRC to muzzle a Congressionally-appointed inspector other than a cover-up?” Lampert asked.
Rather than simply reading reports, Lampert suggested that inspectors examine “actual events” that have occurred. She provided a long list enumerating plant problems since January.
Worker attitude should also be closely evaluated, Lampert wrote.
“Simply consider that between June 1, 2012 and June 26, 2014 a plant security officer failed to conduct required fire watches and falsified more than 200 records,” she wrote.
Morale may also be low, with the plant set to close plant in June 2019, she added."
