CLG: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Microsoft join forces to target 'terrorist propaganda'

News Updates from CLG
07 December 2016

Previous editions: Obama administration expands elite military unit's powers to hunt foreign fighters globally

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Microsoft join forces to target 'terrorist propaganda' | 05 Dec 2016 | Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter and YouTube are joining forces to more quickly identify the worst terrorist propaganda [aka actual news the globalists want to ensure will never see the light of day] and prevent it from spreading online. The new program announced Monday would create a database of unique digital "fingerprints" to help automatically identify videos or images the companies could remove. The move by the technology companies, which is expected to begin in early 2017, aims to assuage government concerns [!] -- and derail proposed new federal legislation -- over social media content that is seen as increasingly driving terrorist recruitment and radicalization, while also balancing free-speech issues.

Security raised at L.A. rail line after threat warning from foreign country --Officials did not identify the country. | 05 Dec 2016 | Federal and Los Angeles officials said on Monday they had been alerted by authorities in another country to a "specific" threat against the city's Red Line commuter rail system, prompting them to beef up security and alert the public. "This threat is imminent...it is very specific," Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck told an evening news conference. "But the credibility still needs to be vetted."

Warning about 'imminent' plot to blow up Universal City station prompts heightened security across L.A. | 05 Dec 2016 | An overseas tip about an imminent bombing of the Metro Red Line's Universal City station has forced federal and local law enforcement in Los Angeles to swiftly ramp up security across its sprawling transit system, authorities said Monday. An anonymous man warned of a potential attack on Tuesday and provided the information on a tip line abroad, according to Deidre Fike, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's office in Los Angeles...Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said that area law enforcement reviews threats "constantly" but that this particular incident was "very specific" and forced a rapid response.

Terrorism Conviction of a Wiretapped American Is Upheld on Appeal | 05 Dec 2016 | A federal appeals court on Monday upheld the 2013 conviction of a Somali-American man for trying to detonate a bomb at a Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, Ore., rejecting his arguments that the F.B.I. had entrapped him and that the government had unconstitutionally intercepted his emails without a warrant. The ruling -- by a three-judge panel of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco -- was particularly important because it upheld the government’s use of emails gathered without a warrant under the FISA Amendments Act of 2008. The law permits the government, on domestic soil, to collect phone calls and emails of noncitizens abroad, even when they are communicating with an American.

Australia approves indefinite detention of convicted terrorists | 01 Dec 2016 | Australia's government on Thursday approved legislation that strengthens the country's terrorism laws by allowing convicted terrorists to be held without charge after serving a prison sentence. Under the legislation, the attorney general may ask a court to indefinitely detain a convicted terrorist 12 months before their sentence expires on the grounds that the convict would pose an unacceptable risk of committing an act of terrorism upon release. The Supreme Court would then have to approve the extended detention given the risk of the prisoner committing a serious terror offense after being freed.

Carter: US, Partners Need to Stay in Iraq [to Continue Wasting Billions on Nation-Building] After ISIS Defeat | 03 Dec 2016 | The American military, along with its international partners, will need to remain in Iraq [to waste billions more of taxpayer dollars] even after the expected defeat of the ISIS [I-CIA-SIS] group, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Saturday. Carter said the U.S. and its coalition partners must not stop after completing the current campaign to expel ISIS from Mosul [and bring them here]...He did not say how long this continued U.S. military presence might be necessary or how many troops would be required.

Vladimir Putin signs new Russian information security doctrine | 06 Dec 2016 | The necessity for a new edition of Russia's doctrine on information security is the result of foreign states intensifying their efforts in information and psychological strategies to affect the internal affairs of other sovereign countries and destabilize them, the document says. The doctrine states that the limitless flow of information has a negative impact on international security, as it can be employed to pursue geopolitical and military goals, thus favoring organized crime, extremists, and terrorists. In the meantime, the doctrine notes, Russian government agencies, scientific centers, and military industries are being targeted by foreign intelligence services by means of electronic and cyber surveillance.

Moscow slams West for staying silent on Russian hospital bombing | 06 Dec 2016 | The Russian Foreign Ministry has criticized western leaders after none appeared to condemn the shelling of a mobile Russian hospital by militants in Syria. Two Russian medics were killed after around a dozen of shells hit the facility in Aleppo. "On December 5, a Russian military medic died as a mortar shell fired by militants directly hit the reception ward of a Russian mobile military hospital set up in Aleppo. Two medical specialists were also severely injured and one of them later died," the ministry said. "However, no words of condemnation can be heard from western capitals," it added, criticizing western governments for their "politicized approach" to the assessment of the situation in Syria.

The US is allegedly not aware of the talks. The talks are taking place in Ankara, brokered by Turkey, and Washington is not participating in the negotiations, the sources told the international daily. "The Russians and Turks are talking without the US now. It [Washington] is completely shut out of these talks, and doesn't even know what's going on in Ankara," one of the Syrian opposition representatives told FT. [Good! That's the way to do it!]

Sweden charges 5 teenage refugees with beating, gang-raping boy for over an hour | 06 Dec 2016 | Five asylum seekers, who arrived in Sweden as unaccompanied minors, have been charged with raping a young Afghan male teen at gunpoint in a premeditated assault in Uppsala, a city outside Stockholm. Swedish state prosecutor John Stromback told AP and local media outlets that two of the alleged perpetrators, who are all aged 16 or 17, were "annoyed with the victim," who they knew socially. Four of the defendants are Afghans, while a fifth has requested a Farsi interpreter for legal proceedings.

Arrest of refugee in rape and slaying in Germany threatens Merkel's immigration policy| 05 Dec 2016 | The arrest of a 17-year-old Afghan refugee suspected of raping and killing a young German medical student turned into a political maelstrom Monday, with opponents pointing to Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision last year to welcome more than a million migrants into the country. Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel tried to calm the brewing storm by insisting it was unfair to blame all refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq for a single criminal act, but the fallout from the slaying of 19-year-old Maria Ladenburger nonetheless left the government on the defensive.

UN ruling to free WikiLeaks' Assange to stand after British appeal rejected | 30 Nov 2016 | The United Nations has rejected a UK appeal against its previous ruling in favor of Julian Assange as "inadmissible," thus requiring both London and Stockholm to end the WikiLeaks founder's "arbitrary detention." Earlier this year, a case was concluded at the UN, in which the body instructed the UK and Sweden to take immediate steps to ensure the WikiLeaks founder's liberty, protection and enjoyment of fundamental human rights. The UK has appealed the ruling twice, with the UN rejecting its second appeal on Wednesday by pronouncing it "not admissible," Justice for Assange reported, adding that the decision marks the end to London's "attempt to overturn the ruling."

"Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion," Trump said Tuesday on Twitter. "Cancel order!" Boeing is the latest major company to be singled out by Trump, who last week announced a deal with United Technologies Corp. to keep a U.S. factory open instead of moving production to Mexico.

Gore was in New York for the Climate Reality Project's 24-hour live broadcast, "24 Hours of Reality," and was invited to Trump Tower to discuss the topic by Trump's oldest daughter, Ivanka, who is not registered with a political party and has pushed her father to adopt some positions usually promoted by Democrats.

Crowd shouts 'No Romney!' at Trump 'Thank You' rally | 04 Dec 2016 | As President-elect Donald Trump stood onstage during the debut night of his "thank you" tour and teased that he was about to announce a surprise Cabinet pick, some in the Ohio crowd bellowed: "No Romney! No Romney!" The possible selection of Romney, who has been on Trump's shortlist for secretary of state despite being a forceful critic throughout the campaign, has been met with trepidation from many of the working-class voters that propelled the Republican to his astonishing victory...Then there’s the Russia twist: Russian politicians are concerned about reports that Trump would even consider Romney as secretary of state because of Romney's harsh stance on Russia. Trump has said he would like to improve U.S.-Russian relations.

James Mattis.

At the same time, academics have played important leadership roles in eras and places in which free expression has come under threat -- as some believe it is now in the U.S. ..Rachel Barney, a professor of classics and philosophy at the University of Toronto (and a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen), this week proposed what she's calling the Anti-Authoritarian Academic Code of Conduct. [LOL! It should read: 'Authoritarian Code of Conduct.']

Michael Banerian, the youth vice-chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, will be one of his state's 16 electors."...I have been inundated with death threats, death wishes, generally angry messages trying to get me to change my vote to Hillary Clinton or another person, and unfortunately, it's gotten a little out of control." Why I Will Not Cast My Electoral Vote for Donald Trump | 05 Dec 2016 | I am a Republican presidential elector, one of the 538 people asked to choose officially the president of the United States. Since the election, people have asked me to change my vote based on policy disagreements with Donald J. Trump. In some cases, they cite the popular vote difference. I do not think president-elects should be disqualified for policy disagreements. I do not think they should be disqualified because they won the Electoral College instead of the popular vote. However, now I am asked to cast a vote on Dec. 19 for someone who shows daily he is not qualified for the office.
