Obama administration, EPA hid planned radiation exposure thousands of times Safe Drinking Water Act limits --Radical Drinking Water Radiation Rise Confirmed in EPA Plan | 22 Dec 2016 | In the last days of the Obama administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is about to dramatically increase allowable public exposure to radioactivity to levels thousands of times above the maximum limits of the Safe Drinking Water Act, according to documents the agency surrendered in a federal lawsuit brought by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). These radical rollbacks cover the "intermediate period" following a radiation release and could last for up to several years. This plan is in its final stage of approval.

"Can you imagine how limited the amount of time it was and how urgently they needed to pack?" Nikolai Lakhonin, press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Washington, told LifeNews on Sunday...The diplomats--together with their family members--were ordered to leave the country within 72 hours...Onboard the plane, among approximately 100 people urgently leaving the U.S. as a result of President Obama's decision, was a pregnant woman and five children who were suffering from the flu, press-secretary of the Russian Embassy in Washington told LifeNewson Sunday.
 
Washington Compost retracts story about Russian hack at Vermont utility | 01 Jan 2017 | The Washington [Com]Post has retracted its story about Russian hackers penetrating the nation's electricity grid with a virus found in a Burlington, Vt., electric company laptop. "Authorities say there is no indication of that so far [that Russians had penetrated the US electric grid]," according to an editor's note attached to a corrected version of the story on the paper's Web site. "The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid," the editor's note read.
'Russian hackers' penetrate US power grid with 'outdated Ukrainian malware' [LOL!] | 31 Dec 2016 | A Vermont utility sounded the alarm after finding malware code on a laptop that the FBI and DHS had touted as associated with Russian hackers. However, cybersecurity specialists say the code came from an outdated Ukrainian hacking tool. On Thursday, the FBI and DHS released a joint report on a hacking operation they called 'Grizzly Steppe'. They claimed the operation was linked to the Russian government, alleging that it had targeted "US persons and institutions, including from US political organizations." ...The US media [Grade 'A' sociopaths] reported the incident as if Russian hackers had penetrated America's electric grids, prompting some officials to call on the federal government to protect Americans from Russian President Vladimir Putin. [In actuality, it was the US thatreleased the Stuxnet virus on Iran's nuclear reactors (an act of war) and possibly on TEPCO's Fukushima nuclear plant. --LRP]
Trump Promises a Revelation on Hacking | 31 Dec 2016 | President-elect Donald J. Trump, expressing lingering skepticism about intelligence assessments of Russian interference in the election, said on Saturday evening that he knew "things that other people don't know" about the hacking, and that the information would be revealed "on Tuesday or Wednesday." Speaking to a handful of reporters outside his Palm Beach, Fla., club, Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump cast his declarations of doubt as an effort to seek the truth. "I just want them to be sure because it's a pretty serious charge," Mr. Trump said of the intelligence agencies. "If you look at the weapons of mass destruction, that was a disaster, and they were wrong," he added, referring to intelligence cited by the George W. Bush administration to support its march to war in 2003. "So I want them to be sure," the president-elect said. "I think it’s unfair if they don't know."

Russia will not expel anyone over U.S. sanctions, to wait for Trump | 30 Dec 2016 | President Vladimir Putin refrained on Friday from retaliating for the U.S. expulsion of 35 suspected Russian spies, putting the onus on Donald Trump to help solve a crisis over Russian cyber attacks when he takes over the White House next month. As a Sunday deadline approached for dozens of Russians to leave the United States, Putin said he would wait for the actions of Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, before responding.
 
Russian, Turkish aircraft destroy Islamic State targets in Syria - army | 02 Jan 2017 | Turkish warplanes and artillery have struck Islamic State targets in Syria, killing 22 of the group's militants, while Russian aircraft hit jihadists near the Islamic State-controlled town of al-Bab, Turkey's military said on Monday. In a round-up of its military operations over the past 24 hours in support of rebels in northern Syria, the army said the Russian aircraft destroyed Islamic State targets in the area of Dayr Kak, 8 km (5 miles) southwest of al-Bab.
 
Top Scientists Urge Trump to Uphold Iran Nuclear Deal | 03 Jan 2017 | Nobel laureates and other top scientists are imploring Donald Trump to keep the Iran nuclear deal intact when he becomes president. In an open letter, 36 scientists--including one who helped design the first hydrogen bomb--asked the president-elect to preserve the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). "The JCPOA does not take any options off the table for you or any future president," the scientists wrote. "Indeed it makes it much easier for you to know if and when Iran heads for a bomb..."
 
Theresa May Scolds Kerry for Focus on Israel Settlements | 30 Dec 2016 | With a Republican administration under Donald J. Trump only weeks away, Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain scolded Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday night for his speech criticizing Israel - a public jab that would have been highly unlikely any other time during the Obama administration. Obama to transfer more Guantanamo detainees despite Trump's objection | 03 Jan 2017 | President Barack Obama plans to transfer additional detainees from Guantanamo Bay, the White House said Tuesday, hours after President-elect Donald Trump warned against moving any more prisoners from the naval facility. "I would expect, at this point, additional transfers to be announced," said Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary...Earlier Tuesday, Trump revived the hot-button topic of the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, also known as Gitmo, in a Twitter message warning against further prisoner transfers before he takes office.
 
REAL ID law won't affect Catawba Nuclear Station workers in York County | 01 Jan 2017 | (SC) York Workers at the Catawba Nuclear Station in York will be largely unaffected by a federal law restricting people's access to certain buildings if they don't have an acceptable form of identification. Starting Jan. 30, 2017, South Carolina IDs and driver's licenses will no longer be accepted for entry into federal buildings, nuclear power plants and military bases. Instead, visitors must provide additional proof of identification, including passports and military IDs. But Catawba Nuclear Station employees will be able to access their site without problems, according to Chris Rimel, South Carolina Communications Manager for Duke Energy.
 
Diablo Canyon nuclear plant cited for cooling system problem | 30 Dec 2016 | (San Luis Obispo, CA) Federal regulators have cited the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant for a problem that may have knocked out a reactor cooling system for a year-and-a-half. The Tribune of San Luis Obispo reported that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a "white finding" on Thursday...During a test in May, workers found that an emergency cooling system for one of the two reactors wasn't working -- and may not have been operating since it was last checked in October 2014.
 
More than 250 rioters smash kebab shop after 'group of Arab men stab young local to death' | 02 Jan 2017 | A staggering 300 rioters stormed the streets in a peaceful suburban town after a group of Arab men allegedly stabbed a lone local to death near a kebab restaurant, according to reports. The rioters descended on the town of Elk, Poland, after a group of Arab -- reportedly of Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia descent -- chased a young man out of a restaurant in the town and repeatedly stabbed him. The man, known only as Daniel R, was stabbed last Saturday around 11pm local time, got into a brawl with four other men after reports suggest he threw a firecracker inside a kebab diner.
 
Turkey nightclub attack: IS says it carried out shooting | 02 Jan 2017 | So-called Islamic State says it was behind the new year attack on a Turkish nightclub that killed 39 people. The group said in a statement it was carried out by "a heroic soldier". At least 600 revellers were celebrating in the early hours of Sunday at Istanbul's Reina nightclub when the gunman began firing indiscriminately, discharging some 180 bullets. The gunman is still at large and a manhunt is under way. Police say they have made eight arrests so far.
 
Istanbul attack: Dozens killed at Turkish nightclub, official says | 01 Jan 2017 | At least 39 people were killed and at least 69 wounded in an attack in a nightclub early Sunday as they were celebrating the new year, Turkey's Interior Minister said. "We are face to face with a terror attack," Interior minister Suleyman Soylu told reporters...US officials also called it a terrorist attack, making it the first of 2017.
 
Ukraine police arrest man suspected of planning Berlin copycat attack | 30 Dec 2016 | Ukrainian police arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday accused of killing a woman and her daughter, and who they also suspect was planning to mow down citizens with a truck, like the attacks on the Berlin Christmas market and in Nice. Police said the man had murdered two people in a village in the southern Odessa region before setting fire to two houses and then escaping in a stolen truck and hiding in an abandoned home before officers caught him. Based on information they had received from a friend of the man, police said he was planning to run over a large crowd of people with the truck.
 
Man arrested after shouting 'bomb' at Berlin New Year party | 31 Dec 2016 | German police say they have arrested a man who shouted "bomb, bomb, bomb" at Berlin's massive open-air New Year's party...Berlin police tweeted Saturday that the unnamed man "is now celebrating #Welcome2017 with us." Tens of thousands of people are celebrating the New Year near Berlin's Brandenburg Gate amid tight security.
 
Ring of massive 20-ton garbage trucks to be a fortress of security in Times Square on New Year's Eve in the wake of recent attacks in Europe | 30 Dec 2016 | The New York Police Department will roll out 65 massive 20-ton sanitation trucks, weighted with an extra 15 tons of sand, to surround the iconic New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square. The security measure is meant to stop deadly truck-driving attacks into crowds like those in Germany and France. Times Square will be heavily policed by 7,000 officers, specially armed counterterrorism units and bomb-sniffing dogs, officials said Thursday. The placement of the trucks, along with 100 patrol cars, at intersections surrounding Times Square adds even more protection against potential attacks.
 
Trump Calls Out House Republicans for Vote to Gut Ethics Office, Republicans Back Down| 03 Jan 2017 | Multiple outlets are reporting that House Republican leaders have now stripped the rules package of the measures gutting the OCE. From Politico: "Following a public outcry, and criticism from President-elect Donald Trump, House Republicans reversed course Tuesday on drastic changes to the independent Office of Congressional Ethics. After a hastily convened conference call, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) offered a motion to restore the current OCE rules that was accepted by the GOP conference via unanimous consent."
 
Ford to scrap Mexico plant, invest in Michigan; CEO cites Trump policies | 03 Jan 2017 | Before he's even taken office, President-elect Donald Trump has proven to be quite the job creator. Ford Motor Company announced Tuesday it will cancel a 1.6 billion plant planned for Mexico and will instead inv-st 700 million in a Michigan assembly plant, directly tying the decision to "pro-growth policies" championed by President-elect Donald Trump.
 
Hillary and Bill Clinton will attend Donald Trump's inauguration | 03 Jan 2017 | The inauguration of the next president won't play out quite the way they had envisioned. But Bill and Hillary Clinton will still attend inaugural ceremonies for President-elect Donald Trump at the Capitol on Jan. 20, aides for both Clintons confirmed Tuesday. Protocol dictates that former presidents, and their spouses, are given prominent seats to witness inauguration. But never has a former first lady lost the election, and it had not been a given that either Clinton would attend.
 
Texas judge issues nationwide injunction on federal transgender health mandate | 31 Dec 2016 | A Texas judge issued an injunction Saturday against a federal mandate aimed to protect transgender people, finding that the federal health rule violates existing law. The preliminary injunction, granted by U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor, is in response to alawsuit filed by Texas, on behalf of religious hospital network Franciscan Alliance, and four other states in August.
 
Publisher to put out Yiannopoulos book despite backlash | 30 Dec 2016 | In the face of heavy criticism, Simon & Schuster is moving forward with plans to publish a book by the conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos...While many in and outside of the publishing industry criticized Simon & Schuster, the book, which is available for preorder, was at the top of Amazon dot com's best seller list Friday.
