Michele Bachmann thinks God made Trump president to stop trans bathroom rights

Former Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann is back in the national spotlight—this time, with a particularly inflammatory remark. According to her, President Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election because God “answered the prayers of believers” to prevent transgender people from accessing bathrooms that align with their gender identity.
Appearing on Christian radio program Understanding the Times with Jan Markell, Bachmann shared her opinion, denouncing transgender rights asgoing against the will of God.
“We know that [Trump’s election] just wasn’t in the natural. This was in the supernatural where God sovereignly, I believe, answered the prayers of believers beseeching him and he’s given us a reprieve,” Bachmann said on the show. “We were in a situation where the president of the United States on his own just issued a sheet of paper and said, overnight, every single public school in the country would have to have the girls’ bathrooms open to the boys and the boys’ bathrooms open to the girls.”

Bachmann, of course, is referencing President Barack Obama’s Dear Colleagues letter protecting transgender bathroom usage in schools. She argues that the Obama administration allowed Americans “to choose” their gender, complaining that the Obama administration was allowing “58 different whatever[s]” to emerge in the U.S.
“In other words, we were all told that we were forced to repeat a lie, not the truth… and when you repeat lies, Romans 1 tells us, that’s when you fall into deception, God’s gives us over to our own delusion,” she said.
Bachmann is far from an LGBTQ activist. She’s repeatedly denounced gay marriage, and her husband runs a counseling service that practices and supports gay conversion therapy. Her husband has allegedly called LGBTQ Americans “barbarians” who need to be “disciplined” and “educated” until they are straight.
