Yesterday morning, America woke up to the news that a lone gunman had perpetrated the largest mass-shooting in modern American history.
Immediately, right-wing reactionaries protecting the profits of the gun lobby declared that now was not the time to talk about solutions to the epidemic levels of gun violence in this country.
But here's a truth that needs to be said: as veterans, we're intimately familiar with the power of these weapons. They have no place in our communities. And Congress must act to limit their sale.
Sign VoteVets petition and make it clear that veterans, military family members, and those who support them demand immediate action on universal background checks, the sale of high capacity magazines, and reinstating the assault weapons ban.
Would any or all of these bills have stopped the Las Vegas shooter? Maybe. Maybe not. But the truth of the matter is that Congress has an obligation to at least attempt to put an end the carnage happening on American streets with increasing frequency.
All my best,
