Tesla Turns Power Back On at Children's Hospital in Puerto Rico
You're on your own - don't count on FEMA or Drumpf's Incompetent Appointments.....and then there's Whitefish Energy ripping off taxpayers.....
While Drumpf's Incompetents ignore Puerto Rico and have failed to provide adequate aid, evacuate those in need of medical care, have failed to provide adequate food and water, TESLA powered a Children's Hospital.

Tesla Turns Power Back On at Children's Hospital in Puerto Rico

esla has used its solar panels and batteries to restore reliable electricity at San Juan's Hospital del Niño (Children's Hospital), in what company founder Elon Musk calls "the first of many solar+battery Tesla projects going live in Puerto Rico."
The project came about after Puerto Rico was hit by two devastating and powerful hurricanes in September, and Musk reached out about Tesla helping.
Musk's company announced its success in getting the hospital's power working again less than three weeks after Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello tweeted on Oct. 6, "Great initial conversation with @elonmusk tonight. Teams are now talking; exploring opportunities."
Tesla's image of the project's solar array, in a parking lot next to the hospital, has been liked more than 84,000 times since it was posted to Instagram Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Musk tweeted that some of his company's work is being rerouted so it could "increase battery production for Puerto Rico & other affected areas."
The hospital's new system allows it to generate all the energy it needs, according to El Nuevo Dia. The facility has 35 permanent residents with chronic conditions; it also offers services to some 3,000 young patients, the newspaper says. As for who is paying for the power system, the head of the hospital tells Nuevo Dia that for now, it's a donation — and that after the energy crisis is over, a deal could make it permanent.
Both Rossello and the tech company tweeted about the project this week, with Tesla saying in a post, "Grateful to support the recovery of Puerto Rico with @ricardorossello" — and Rossello stating, "A major contribution of @Tesla to the Hospital del Niño."
The news of restoring permanent power at the hospital comes as millions of people in Puerto Rico continue to rely on generators for electricity. As of Wednesday morning, the Electric Power Authority reported that its power service was at 25 percent.
The task of rebuilding Puerto Rico's power grid is expected to take months and to cost as much as $5 billion.
Last week, the territory's electric and power authority signed a $300 million contract with Whitefish, a small and relatively young Montana company, to restore the power grid. The deal has sparked scrutiny and skepticism, as NPR's Laurel Wamsley and Nicky Ouellet of Montana Public Radio reported.
Tesla isn't the only tech company trying to help Puerto Rico; Google's parent company, Alphabet, has deployed balloons from its Project Loon to the territory, to help parts of the island reconnect after much of its phone system went down. The portable network can help phone users with both messaging and some web browsing.

The US ambassador to New Zealand Scott Brown has admitted he has been investigated over allegations he made inappropriate comments on his inaugural trip to Samoa, of which he is also the US representative.
Brown told New Zealand media on Wednesday he wanted to address “innuendo and rumour” about his visit to Samoa in July to celebrate 50 years of the peace corps in the country.
Brown – speaking with his wife, Gail Huff, by his side – confirmed he was the subject of an official administration inquiry by the US state department, which sent investigators to Wellington to look into what took place on the trip.
Brown said the official complaints related to comments he had made at a party in the Samoan capital, Apia, where he told attendees they looked “beautiful” and could make hundreds of dollars working in the hospitality industry in the US. Brown and Huff said they had “no idea” the comments would be regarded as offensive.
“I was told by my people that you’re not Scott Brown from New Hampshire any more, you’re an ambassador, and you have to be culturally aware of different cultures and sensitivities,” Brown said.
“We are in a different culture: even though we all speak English, sometimes when we say one thing it means the complete different thing.”
Brown went on to say “politics is a blood sport” and there were a lot of people at the event who did not like US president Donald Trump. Brown was Trump’s first ambassadorial appointment after he took office.
Huff said the “takeaway” from the incident was: “We are going to be very, very careful about we say and how it’s perceived.”
The Guardian understands that complaints against Brown came from two serving female members of the peace corps.
The Guardian first contacted the US state department in Washington, the US embassy in Wellington and the US high commission in Samoa in August, requesting details of the ambassador’s trip to Samoa and comment on the complaints. All requests have gone unanswered.
On Wednesday a spokesperson for the US embassy in Wellington said: “Ambassador Brown has nothing to add to the comments he made in this afternoon’s interview.”

This & that.....
In case you missed it, President Trump nominated a climate denier as chief scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Clovis is not a scientist and his outrageous past statements about dedicated public servants disqualifies him from serving as USDA’s top scientist. The Trump administration must halt its efforts to deny and suppress climate science.
President Donald Trump has chosen a new nominee to serve as chief scientist at the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Were that the whole story, it would be but a mere droplet in the firehose of politics news that has come to define life in 2017.
Instead, it turns out that Trump’s pick, Dr. Sam Clovis, is no ordinary nominee—assuming that, you know, “ordinary” is even a thing anymore.
Here’s a quick list of facts you may want to know about Clovis as he goes before the Senate for his confirmation hearing.
- A former public policy and business professor at Morning Side College in Iowa, Clovis is not a scientist. For comparison’s sake, the USDA’s chief scientist under former President Barack Obama, Dr. Catherine Woteki, was the global director of science affairs for Mars, Inc. (the candy company), where she oversaw its research into health and nutrition; served as dean of agriculture at Iowa State University; and served as first Under Secretary for Food Safety at USDA from 1997 until 2001. She holds an M.S. and Ph.D in human nutrition from Virginia Tech and a B.S. in biology and chemistry from Mary Washington College.
- Clovis is not a farmer, although he is from the agriculture-heavy state of Iowa.
- Clovis, like Trump, spread birther conspiracy theories about Obama. He also claimed Obama wanted to “enslave” his opponents.
- In a 2012 blog post, Clovis called former Attorney General Eric Holder, who is Black, a “racist bigot.”
- In emails leaked prior to Clovis joining the Trump campaign, he questioned the then-candidate’s “moral center and his foundational beliefs.” (At the time, Clovis supported former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is now Trump’s energy secretary.)
- Back in 2013, Clovis rejected the idea that climate change is “settled science” and asserted that it is instead a “nonsensical theory” invented by liberals to give the impression that they can create “perfect weather.” At a Farm Foundation Forum last October, he told E&E News that “we need more science” before Trump could craft policy. As chief scientist, Clovis would oversee the USDA’s climate change research.
- Clovis currently serves as the White House adviser to the USDA.
- During the 2016 election season, Clovis served as co-chair of Trump’s national campaign.
