Middleboro BOS Meeting SAT 2/16/08 9 AM

Middleboro BOS have posted a meeting for Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 9 AM.
.
There is no AGENDA posted in the Bank Building.
.
There is no AGENDA posted on the Town's Web Site. LINK
.
The Selectmen's secretary's office number is: 508 946-2405.
.
I left a message requesting a phone call indicating the Agenda or that the Agenda be posted on the Town's Web Site.
.
Is this a continuation of the MUSHROOM FARMING POLICY?
.
The following article was found that appears to explain Saturday's BOS Meeting. Based on the article, the basis for the Executive Session might be doubtful.
.
Middleboro will seek help for casino planning

.
MIDDLEBORO - Town planning for a proposed casino has ground to a halt, and selectmen have called an emergency meeting for Saturday to resolve the problem.
During an executive session on Monday, selectmen hammered out an employment contract for a temporary planner to take some of the workload off Town Planner Ruth M. Geoffroy, who has been the town’s point person for the proposed Mashpee Wampanoag tribe’s casino. LINK

Verizon: Your Cheatin' Heart .....#2

When we switched to Verizon (phone & internet) in August 2007, we were told that local coverage was available.
.
Knowing that it was not yet available, we declined to switched to Verison cable, at that time, but had our own problems with service and overcharges that have been commented on.
.
But other customers made the switch based on Verizon's claim of current service being offered or promise of future service for local coverage.
.
And my goodness, if you check the Verizon web site, there are 3 local channels listed.
.

LOCAL PEGS Channel
Middleborough Educational Access 33
Middleborough Government Access 34
Middleborough Public Access 35
.
.
Receiving emails from others who have been plagued with Verizon complaints, listening to residents who have complaints about Verizon, and growing tired of the inattention of the Middleboro BOS, I forwarded a complaint to the link that was included in the previous complaint.
.
The just received response is as follows:
.

Have you contacted the Verizon President's office?
The number is 1 800 483 7988.
You might also check with your town to see if a license has been issued for FIOS.
I am not aware of Verizon collecting money up front.
Have you paid for the FIOS service but haven't received it ?
Please let me know.
Thank you,

Christine

.
Clearly Ms. O'Toole misunderstood my complaint, but she very kindly provided the phone number for the President of Verizon. You might just want to call and chat about you Verizon issues.
.
And then file a complaint with DTC.
.
Someone also called me to suggest that if enough small claims cases were filed in Wareham, maybe Verizon would respond.

Verizon: Your Cheatin' Heart .....

Verizon's egregious conduct when they were 'slamming' customers who had never ordered phone service ultimately led to those recordings in which you have to confirm your Verizon order.
.
Does any other phone company make you record your order?
.
So Verizon moves into Middleboro filled with grand promises, goes door to door soliciting customers, fills your mailbox with glossy brochures promoting their services, offers of new televisions.
.
And tells everyone Verizon offers local access programs -- Selectmen's Meeting, School Committee Meetings and so on.
.
Except THEY DON'T.
.
After Verizon indicated that local service would be available by the end of January 2008, a letter received by the Middleboro BOS indicates the service will be available by the end of February 2008 and the appropriate equipment has just been delivered to Comacast in Middleboro.
.
A Verizon Representative has indicated that attendance at the BOS Meeting of March 3, 2008 is possible.
.
At the BOS Meeting, residents' complaints will be addressed.
.
In addition to not providing local coverage as promised, Verizon is providing FIOS to subdivision, but informing customers they can't provide cable.
.
Submit written complaints to the Middleboro BOS to be addressed at that meeting.
.
If you want to send a copy of that letter to the DTC, here are the links:
DTC OnLine Complaint Form
.
Will Verizon deliver by the end of February 2008?
.
As a footnote: If you call Verizon for installation, a representative will tell you that they provide local coverage. Verizon's printed material informs you that they provide local coverage.
.
It would seem that there are 2 choices for consumers: 1. Switch back to ComCast; 2. File complaints based on Verizon's deliberate deception which seem consistent with past history.
To file a complaint with the Attorney General:

Little Noticed

Little noticed by many, was the announcement in January 2008 of live broadcasts of legislative sessions. Senate sessions may be accessed through a link of Sen. Therese Murray's site.

New Middleboro Contracts

The Middleboro Selectmen and interim Town Manager periodically announce in vague terms that union contracts are being negotiated with the Town's various unions and subsequently ratified.
.
In their wisdom, the Middleboro BOS negotiated ALL contracts to expire on July 1, 2007, which created a crush upon expiration that the BOS failed to address in a timely fashion.
.
Last week, the BOS announced 3 additional contracts that had been extended for a SINGLE YEAR.
.
Middleboro Voters should be cautioned to monitor the contracts closely, request copies from the Town Clerk and review them carefully.
.
Several separate contracts have been negotiated by the BOS that included clauses such as the one included in the Town's 4 day a week Accountant:
.

Dooney shall be entitled to any cost of living allowances that may be granted to any non-bargaining and/or collective bargaining agreement.
.
or the Confidential Secretary to the Board of Selectmen:
.
The Town agrees that, should any benefit contained in the Non-Union Benefits Agreement (or any successor Agreement) be increased or decreased, that benefit would be reopened for possible increase or decrease for the Board's Secretary as well, if voted by the Board of Selectmen.
.
Some may recall that Town Meeting voters defeated the 36% pay raise given to the Board's Secretary, failing to understand that pay increase was subsequently granted.
.
Similar clauses are included in several union contracts.
.
Any contracts negotiated need to be presented with a disclosure of other separate contracts that will be affected and their ultimate costs to taxpayers.

Negativity? Who said that?

With the focus of attention in Middleboro during the past year, the willingness of many to accept without question fairytales, gossip and outright lies has been breathtaking at times.

.

Critics complain of the negativity, failing to hear the proposed solutions or recognize the goal of much needed improvement.

.

And those same critics, so focused on their target, ignore the facts. Many of those critics are defending their participation in the blunders.

.

Puttering around the internet, excerpts of an article that included inflammatory rhetoric, emotionally charged words deliberately chosen to attack and demean the opposition were discovered and are listed below. Can you guess who wrote it?

.

Without a swaggering, barely articulate, brush clearing "brat and a Bud Bush" the mouth breathers can relate to,....
.
If ____ is the candidate talk show bigots and swift boaters will use anything and everything to lift the rotting logs of sexism and get their creepy crawlies to the polls.
.
They will stoke the flames of racial and religious racial animus ....
.
We know that there is a segment of society so filled with hate untempered by higher level cognitive functioning that they will believe anything that reinforces their prejudices.
.
.... these butt scratchers may not feel that it is worth breaking their usual routine to actually go to the polls.
.
...the hucksters of hate ...
.
....so the later will probably be used by the scummiest of the right wing scum.
.
....candidate...once and for all put a permanent cork in the garbage mouths of these puke mongers.

.

After reading the above, confusion is understandable when reading the following authored by the same person (emphasis mine):

.

....after looking over the blogs and comments on the blogs which are a popular feature of the CasinoFacts.org website, I saw rhetoric that I would never publish on this website.
.
...some of them choose to use vicious humor or just nasty names to insult those with whom they disagree.
.
Mudslinging in private is one thing....
.
....something libelous ....
.
Monitoring several blogs or message boards to assure they meet an organization or website's standards for propriety and courtesy is a time consuming task.
.
The only rule aside from good taste and civility is that anonymous material will not be published.
.
.
That same author departed a discussion forum when other posters disagreed with him.
.
And that same author has refused to respect others when shoving a camera in their face and disrupting public meetings by climbing over furniture (incidentally, in violation of the Open Meeting Law), instead defending his right to do so.
.
Maybe Hal can explain why he has become precisely what he has criticized in others.
