Tea Party Express picks Colorado for first ad target

Mark Udall for Colorado
Match 1:1

As Mark Udall’s research director, it’s my job to collect the facts. Here are a few that caught my attention:
  • Fact: The Tea Party Express endorsed Mark’s challenger Owen Hill on Monday.
  • Fact: In 2010, the Tea Party Express spent $7.7 million to support Tea Party candidates like Ken Buck.
  • Fact: In 2012 they spent $9.3 million, helping to bring Ted Cruz and other reckless obstructionists to the U.S. Senate.
  • Fact: It’s only February, but the Tea Party Express has already spent $5.7 million in the 2014 elections.
  • Fact: Yesterday, the Tea Party Express spent six figures on an Owen Hill ad, which has already started airing on TVs across the state. The group chose Colorado to air its first ad nationally above all other 2014 races.
Notice anything? The Tea Party Express's spending numbers are only getting bigger. I knew you had to see these facts — especially the last one.

This week marks the first round of TV advertising from outside groups. And it’s only the beginning. It won’t be long before heavy hitters like the Koch brothers and Karl Rove come back in to attack Mark.

Now we need to respond. We’ve raised our rapid response grassroots fundraising goal to $100,000 to match 1:1 what the Tea Party is spending on Owen Hill this month. Will you give $5 today so we can compete?

Here’s a bonus fact: The day after the Tea Party Express endorsed Owen Hill over Ken Buck, Tea Party groups around Colorado came to Buck’s defense — disavowing the Tea Party Express endorsement.
As Buck and Hill continue to fight over which one has more Tea Party cred in their race to the right, we’re building a grassroots campaign around Mark’s common-sense, independent-minded record of protecting Colorado’s way of life. And Mark needs your support today.

Can you put us $5 closer toward our critical $100,000 fundraising goal? We must match the Tea Party Express dollar for dollar.

Thanks,
Shawn
