ADVERTISING, INFOTAINMENT AND PUBLIC FUNDING: There are a number of so called "news websites" out there following the lead of the Huffington Post in using tabloid of heavily sexualized content to pad their readership numbers. Why? Advertising. A publication that relies on ad revenue to pay its bills must have high readership numbers to make the process work. More readers equal higher advertising rates. If that means tabloid or sexualized content is juxtaposed beside legitimate news and commentary then so be it, that's the price of doing business. Public funding is different.
