ADVERTISING,
INFOTAINMENT AND PUBLIC FUNDING: There are a number of so called "news websites"
out there following the lead of the Huffington Post in using tabloid of heavily
sexualized content to pad their readership numbers. Why? Advertising. A
publication that relies on ad revenue to pay its bills must have high readership
numbers to make the process work. More readers equal higher advertising rates.
If that means tabloid or sexualized content is juxtaposed beside legitimate news
and commentary then so be it, that's the price of doing business. Public funding
is different. Without the advertising revenue there is no incentive to move the
issues to the side to entertain. RSN, we stay focused. / Marc Ash - Founder,
