inside the building reported hearing dozens of shots and seeing a body on the
ground 22 Oct 2014 A gunman has killed a Canadian soldier
standing guard at the National War Memorial before multiple gunmen fired dozens
of shots inside the halls of Parliament in Ottawa. Police have said there are
'two or three' gunmen inside the building and one of the gunmen has been killed,
the Ottawa Citizen reported. Parliament was placed under lockdown after witnesses reported
seeing a gunman climbing out of his car, grabbing a rifle, shooting the soldier
in the abdomen and then running towards Parliament Hill. Ottawa police received
a call at 9.52am that shots had been heard in Parliament, while journalists

Canada Shooting: Parliament Building on Lockdown Amid
Gunfire 22 Oct 2014 Heavily-armed police
cleared Canada's Parliament building today and are still searching for more than
one suspect after three shooting incidents near the Parliament left a soldier
wounded. Gunfire was heard inside Parliament. The gunfire prompted security
force to hustle Prime Minister Stephen Harper to a "safe" place not at
Parliament Hill, his spokesperson said. Ottawa Police said via Tw-tter the
initial shooting took place at 9:52 a.m. at the National War Memorial of Canada,
but that was just the beginning of the violent episode, which has now stretched
into investigations in two other locations: Parliament Hill and the nearby
Rideau Centre. [See: Photos from Canada

media and eyewitness reports on Wednesday. Parliament was locked down and Prime
Minister Stephen Harper had left the building safely as police converged on the
area. As the situation developed, CBC News said in a tweeted news alert that
more shots were fired near parliament and the gunman was still at

Canada raises domestic terrorism threat
level 21 Oct 2014 Canada has raised its
domestic terrorism threat level. In a statement released Tuesday Jason Tamming,
a spokesman for the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency, said the decision
to raise the level was "linked to an increase in general chatter from radical
Islamist organizations like ISIL, Al Qaeda [al-CIAduh], Al Shabaab and others
who pose a clear threat to Canadians." Tamming added that the elevated level
means "intelligence has indicated that an individual or group within Canada or
abroad has the intent and capability to commit an act of terrorism, and that the
Integrated Terrorism Assessment Centre assesses that a violent act of terrorism
could occur."

returned to families after being stopped en route to Syria to join
militants 22 Oct 2014 Sources tell ABC News
that three teenage girls from the Denver metro area are back with their families
in Colorado after they were taken into custody by the FBI in Germany.
Authorities said the teens were stopped en route to Syria and planned to join
militant groups. The three girls, all under the age of 18, were persuaded to
travel overseas and were in contact with someone in Germany. Someone close to
them notified authorities, and the FBI tracked them down in Frankfurt, Germany,
ABC News reported. A U.S. official said the girls were headed toward Turkey en route
to Syria and that investigators were now reviewing evidence, including the
girls' computers.

U.S. to funnel travelers from Ebola-hit region through five
airports 21 Oct 2014 The United States
ratcheted up its safeguards against Ebola on Tuesday, requiring travelers from
three countries at the center of an epidemic in West Africa to fly into one of
five major airports conducting enhanced screening for the virus. The
restrictions on passengers whose trips originated in Liberia, Sierra Leone or
Guinea were announced by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and were set
to go into effect on Wednesday. Affected travelers will have their temperatures
checked for signs of a fever that may indicate Ebola infection, among other
protocols, at New York's John F. Kennedy, New Jersey's Newark, Washington
Dulles, Atlanta, and Chicago's O'Hare international airports, officials
said.

to decimate corn crops. While approved for use in the United States, Chinese
regulators have yet to sanction the export of Viptera.
Election fliers with lynching photo appear in Cumberland County,
NC 21 Oct 2104 Churchgoers in Cumberland
County were left shaken and disturbed when leaving services Sunday morning. They
found fliers with images of a lynching plastered on their cars. Fayetteville
police say the fliers appear to be hate materials, and, because there is an
implied threat to President Obama, it's likely federal agents will become
involved. The fliers state "Kay Hagan doesn't win! Obama's impeachment will
begin." The caption is over a disturbing photo of the lynching of three
African-American men from 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota.
